Correct Me If I'm Wrong.
Did the Gov advise the public to go for diesels as they were Climate Friendly? I now see that they want older dervs to go on the scrappage scheme, are they prepared to cover the full costs that they had the people incur with the change? or is this another UK Rip Off?

Heartbreaking that authorities want to vandalise perfectly good manufactured items. The wicked waste that they are happy to inflict sums up the throw away, nothing valued attitude that they have. The simple solution, if it was going to have that much effect anyway, would be to stop selling new and let natural end of life reduce the number of such vehicles year on year. This hysterical demand it all has to happen right now is insane. No one needs these sort of folk influencing society's decisions. I don't know so much about needing to be 18 to vote; I think one should need to be 60 to run for public office to avoid these knee jerk, must be seen to be forcing change as it's good for my career/CV, headless chicken types being inflicted on us all.

Mikey, I can assure you there aren't many HGVs that run Uneconomical, the hauliers can not afford to run their HGVs, vans at a loss, if that was the case they would get shut, the HGVs of today will return depending the area they are running 10>>12 to a gallon, the excess full comes when the injectors get dirty, this can be seen by black fumes coming from the Exhaust, any diesel / cars vehicle uses unnecessary fuels with these speed humps / ramps when you slow right down then off again, instead of ramps / humps they would be better off putting in speed cameras, but that will cost, what I would like to know, where does ALL the Road Fund Licence money go?
This is all to do with emission levels. There are 'Euro' standards that must be met by ALL vehicles NOT just diesels

The current standard is Euro6 which ALL vehicles sold since the start of 2015 MUST comply with.
For diesel engines Euro6 includes particulate filters and Adblue technology and as well as catalytic converters.
The catalytic converter burns Carbon Monoxide, which is poisonous to Carbon Dioxide which is not . The particulate filter removes the fine particles and automatically burns them off when it is full.
Adblue removes NOX from the exhaust.
Any diesel that meets EURO6 will NOT be affected by any ban or surcharge and will NOT qualify for the scrappage scheme even if it is introduced.
The idea is that eventually there will only be Euro6 and above vehicles on the road. Euro7 will soon be introduced which has even lower emission levels than Euro6 . Euro8 is further down the line!
I have a Vauxhall Zafira 7 seater with a Euro6 ecodiesel engine.
It does over 45 mpg around town and well over 60 mpg on a long run! No petrol car of the same size can come near that!
By the way 'Euro' emission standards will NOT be changed once we leave the EU!

Yep the advice was go Diesel, endorsed by Layboor, based on "research" and advice from EU. You know all those EU companies that have subsequently been proved to be fiddling the facts to suit their "business" needs. Good job the Yanks were testing them as well, or we would all be in need of NHS capacity. :))
