I have a 1994 corsa that i got a week ago and have just noticed that the indicators dont make any noise when I put them on.Is this normal or do I need to get it sorted? Can I do anything about it myself?
hi meltoadhall, i have had a corsa and mine didnt make a noise when the indicators were on but i have some good advice for you "dont try to fix whats still working" if its the 16valve ecotech engine everything costs a fortune for it,as long as they flash ok i would not touch them,
If the indicators actually flash and at the correct speed etc... why worry, it may be that it has a electonic control which will not make any noise anyway.
If you are not getting an audible, as well as visible, indication that your indocators are working then your car is actually in breach of the vehcile constrction and use regulations. It sounds like you might have a flasher relay which has either developed a fault (gone quiet - they are supposed to be noisy) or was intended for a foreign market where they don't have the 'audible indication' regulation. If you actually drive the vehicle in this condition then you are technically in breach of the law and risk prosecution. As the Corsa is such a very simple and basic car then you should find it easy to change the flasher relay for one which makes the right noise.
If all the lights are working I would leave well alone. As for noise, the MOT testers guide quotes for vehicles after 1986 that the vehicle must have a "tell tale" device to show the driver that they are operating.
Note: A 'tell-tale' may be audible or visual, it is not required if one or more direction indicators on each side can be seen by the driver from the driver's seat.
