So many people claim for whip lash even when they don't have it coz they know it can't be disproved and they'll get lots of money. Is this ever going to be cracked down on or will they continue to get away with making the claims?
A friend of mine was once the first police officer on the scene of an accident involving a coach. It was absolute carnage, including a brain sitting on one of the seats without the rest of the body. Those on the other side of the coach were uninjured and he started collecting names and addresses, and confirming they were uninjured. An American tourist told him "Are you kidding? I swallowed glass. Prove I didn't". The claim culture is here to stay and we all pay for it in our insurance premiums.
A friend of mine works for an insurance company, dealing with claims of this nature. It is commonly believed that there are no tests for whiplash and it cannot be proved, however it can. Claimants are asked to perform a number of stretches, asked to point to the pain etc. Some of these exercises should result in no pain, regardless of whiplash, but claimants who are faking are unaware of this and as a result are caught out.
