What happens to the car registration plate procedure in 2010? Between march and august is straight forward but what happens then?

what do you mean,in 2010, the plates will be,march, 10 and sept,60.it just carries on

To clarify NORMANTHEDOG's answer;

As we know, the first number indicates the 6 month period in which the car was registered, and the second number indicates the year: 05 - the first half (or thereabouts) of 2005, 55 - the second half of 2005.

In order to distinguish the 2010 to 2019 from 2001 to 2009, they will use the digit 1 to indicate the first half of the year and 6 to indicate the second half of the year: 10 - the first half of 2010, 62 the second half of 2012.

This system can be used for 50 years, as opposed to the previous two systems which could only run for 22 years each.

On a slightly different track. Why, in the UK do we have this fixation about being able to tell the year of first registration from the plate? It's just stupid.
Gef - it's useful don't you think? If you see a car with a for sale sign in the window you can tell how old it is from the reg or if you see a model of car you like the look of you know the year, etc.
