engine not well!

I have a 1971 Toyota Hi-ace camper van with a 1600 petrol engine. Last week it suddenly started mis-firing, it lost power but got me home (90 miles) i've started it a couple of times since then and it starts first time but still lacks power and is missing. When I turn the ignition off it carries on firing for a few seconds and won't start again. any suggestions?

check plugs and points and renew them if needed it sounds as if the advance and retard is out which with rewing the plugs and points may sort out

thanks bob, checked points - completely knackered. Van so old had to order them!
