You STOLE her "liitle soldier" she will probably never get over it! lol. Ignore her don't worry about it or it will cause trouble with you and your other half - the classic passive aggresive MIL manoever.
I have only recently had the same thing. My mother in law was great with me for about a year..then we had spats every now & then.

Last year we fell out big time. Even Mr P has decided he wants nothing more to do with her.

Mother in law has always been fab with her daughter and son in law. Mr P's aunt has said that it is because she wants to be the only woman in her sons life..we should have known by past experience as she did the same thing to his first wife! as the saying goes:

A daughter is a daughter all your life
A son is a son 'til he takes a wife

thanks for your replies guys. mr pixie feels like he can never do anything right with her. she blows hot and cold with us and we have decided after a talk this morning we are just gonna ignore it
Ive never in my life been able to please my mother in law. It doesnt matter what I did, I was never good enough. Although things have now changed somewhat.

But years ago, not once did she ever say a kind word to me. And there were always these unrelenting digs at me. All of this because I once threw up on her sister. I have no idea what the palaver was all about. Geesh! Its just that the smell of stale perfume and old hair spray got to me. All I could say to my mother in law was that she shouldnt worry they were going to close the coffin soon anyway!

Whilst I worship the ground she grazes on, there are little things she still doesnt like about me. Like when I wake up in the morningohhh she hates that!

But weve come to some sort of settlement now. All I have to do now is remind her that it is @i who gets to select her nursing home!

All I can suggest is grin and bear it.

I share your pain!

I know exactly how all you ladies feel - and she isnt even my mother in law yet!! I have been with my fiance for just over 6 years and to begin with, I got on quite well with his mother. The problem is, when I first met my partner he was only 19 and me 16 so we both lived with our parents and his mum did EVERYTHING for him. When we got engaged and started saving for somewhere of our own, I moved in with them and it all turned BAD! If I ever cooked anything for myself and my fiance she would make snide remarks about it not looking very nice or interfering while I was cooking it. She would tell all her friends and family that we didnt do anything around the house and she had to do everything when, in reality, I practically begged her to let me do some housework. I even did a load of washing once because I thought I was being helpful, when she realised she said 'Oh, I usually boil the whites, they dont get clean otherwise' and then promptly took it off the line and washed it again!

On numerous occasions have I broken down in tears over her comments and it has caused a few arguements between my fiance and I.

I think I have finally proved myself to her now, although it is difficult to say as we have now moved into our own home and she is not there to put me down all the time.

Dont you think that this is the perfect website to come to to have a major rant about things like mother in laws. Do you feel better after putting down your feelings here? I do! I have to say, I think it will get better for you. sense4all is right, you have taken her 'little soldier' away and mother in laws never think that there little soldiers wifes/girlfriends are ever going be half as good as them at looking after them. Sad!
