i have a toyota lucida, (diesel) which is blowing loads of smoke from the exhaust, it seems to be really bad when you pull away, in lower gears, its an automatic.
it is white smoke, but a lot of it if you accelerate hard.
i haven';t been driving it as much as normal although it still is being driven every couple of days.
it doesn't have an oil leak onto th road, could it be something to do with the oil though? or is the engine likely to blow up!!!

Hi Katie When a diesel car emits white smoke the fault usually nine times out of ten lies with the turbo seals, hope that helps. FT
Hi katie, From what you have said, it most like to be the cylinderhead gasket has blown,

the water from your radiator and expansion tank is leaking through the gasket and into the cylinders and out through the exhaust causing white smoke,
I would agree with Mech29s diagnosis what he/she omits to say is that you should get it sorted ASAP, otherwise should excessive water flood a cylinder, you could be looking at an even more expensive repair.

thanks for your answers, any idea roughly how much the repairs would cost?
Somebody else did say to me something about a seal might have gone though. Bloody Cars!!!!!
sounds like the headgasket to me, white smoke is due to water being burnt, keep an eye on the water level
