Bikers why are you queing in traffic??

Saw one today in a long traffic queue. Ok heads up bikers, Geezer ranting time.

You are a bike you do not wait in traffic, sad people in slow moving steel boxes wait in traffic. They have protection from the elements and safety, the price they pay for that is traffic queues. We are vulnerable and exposed, our reward is that we have been given superior road skill to filter past the SMSB's and avoid them doing stupid things. Capiesch?

So bikers you know who you are, you do not wait in traffic, otherwise you may as well get a car. That applies to even those among you who have seen fit not to get an R1 and also scooters, even the gay ones ok?

Doc just a word of advice.If youre being overtaken , or see a vehicle in your rear view moirror and deliberately manouvere your vehicle to impede them , then i reckon youre potentially liable for attempting to cause an accident.
Funny though your rants on here can be , i doubt very much a judge would be swayed by your arrogance or stubborness.And always bear in mind the judge may be female too !

a nice car driver pulled out of a side road in front of me last night and nearly put me in hospital. unlike you i don't class all car drivers as pillocks

daniela i put that info on because there are loads of cars on the road with no insurance and drivers with no licence.
go and buy a new bike .YOU have to show your LICENCE.
go and buy a car and they just want money.

maybe they have extended it to cars. i went with a friend a couple of years back and all they wanted was the cash deposit. however the bike shop said it was law that they had to see a valid driving licence.

Though perfectly legal, you should only filter when your manoeuvre complies with the guidelines of the normal rules of overtaking.

162: Before overtaking you should make sure
- the road is sufficiently clear ahead
- there is a suitable gap in front of the road user you plan to overtake
163: Overtake only when it is safe and legal to do so. You should not get too close to the vehicle you intend to overtake
167: DO NOT overtake where you might come into conflict with other road users. For example
- approaching or at a road junction on either side of the road
- where the road narrows
- when approaching a school crossing patrol
- between the kerb and a bus or tram when it is at a stop
- where traffic is queuing at junctions or road works
- when you would force another road user to swerve or slow down
- when a road user is indicating right, even if you believe the signal should have been cancelled.

You must know that motorcyclists are more likely to be in an accident with another vehicle during a filtering manoeuvre. Even when the accident is not the motorcyclist s fault, they invariably come off worse in terms of injury.

So, the motorcyclist you saw had probably concluded it was not safe or legal to filter.

This post has drifted somewhat from the original question but id say that there is a percentage of bike riders who break the law, just as there is a percentage of car drivers. neither group can claim they are better than the other.

rubbish? for a start Ive heard it from bikers themselves.

as i said, there is an element of breaking law, pushing limits etc in all types of transportation.

sadly in any collision with a bike involved it is often the biker who comes off worse, it doesnt always mean that they are the inncocent victim.

i don't know what part of the country you are from , but in the north west the speed camera's take a picture of a car number plate or a bike number plate.

tell me about it , in 1983 a kind car driver turned in front of me at a junction, i went flying over the top of his car, i had trouble for years with my shoulder.it is still not perfect. his excuse was he did not see me .there were witnesses that the police spoke to and he was proscecuted. i ended up with no bike , off work for about 8 weeks.

Why do people keep talking about weaving? I'm talking about filtering, not the same thing.

Drfilth, are you sure about the licence thing? I mean there are cases when a bike is bought perhaps for someone else or perhaps for use in racing eg BSB/WSB. I've bought lots of bikes over the years and no one has ever asked to see my licence. Is it recent change to law?

DrFilth, i think we are all saying the same thing here, that there are prats in cars and on bikes, but that they are (hopefully) the minority. I know many safe bikers, i know many safe car drivers, but i also know thos who i'd never go pillion with or passenger in their cars

I went to overtake on a dual carriageway the other day, as always I checked my mirrors before signalling (i knew a bike had pulled onto the carriageway behind me not long prior to this), and what should i see in my mirror?
a bellypan! The rider had pulled onto the road, pulled a wheelie and was proceeding to overtake me on his rear wheel!
Just as bad as any boy racer in a corsa who overtakes on a blind bend if you ask me :)

btw i cant see if geography matters but Im in east anglia.

R1 if you go in a bike shop and buy a bike they will always ask to see your licence. this has been going on for a few years.if you buy a second hand bike you are supposed to fill in v5c form , section 6 asks for the new persons driver number
did you buy your R1 new or buy from another biker
