Did she refuse the FP and go to court?
serves her right - must know the law by now
she must have either refused or ignored the fixed penalty notice, then the fine can be upto 1000

gsr, cant remember anywhere in the question, for anyones opinion!
Is it worth someones life to answer a bloody phone call, is the world going to end if you do not answer it? you can always go into your little toy and look at the last incoming No, The 3 points that the government had dished out is Crp, it should be 6 to 8 points to detour people, after all that stupid blood phone has, & has been proved to cause the death of a whole family in one go, why, lack of concentration.

twr, toally agree with you but that wasnt the question, was it???

totally
The moral of the 200 Fine Gina must be the courts discretion but there is one thing for sure!!! Will she use it again? I think not.
I don`t agree with the mobile phone laws, taking a call is no more dangerous than changing a radio station or cd

The law should be for texting while driving
Awww - just get a hands-free car phone. It IS dangerous to use a mobile whilst driving, anyway. Getting engrossed in listening to a conversation can detract from concentrating, and if you're driving one-handed, it makes it worse.

If you're not using a hands free mobile and you're driving that ties up a hand.

If you're driving a manual car that's obviously dangerous.

The law should really be for manual cars but I guess that'd be too hard to enforce.

If the business about it being dangerous holding a conversation was justifiable then there would be no reason to permit hands free phones would there?

There is the issue about dialing whilst driving but again that would be specific.

Not easy to frame an effective law that stops numpties doing dangerous things but still allows people to use phones but the one we have is pretty close.

There's an easy answer as noted above. If you want to use your phone in a car get a hands free kit, given the small fortune many people seem to spend on having the latest phone that doesn't seem a big ask
If we carry on like this, it will soon be illegal to breath whilst driving........or have the kids in the car.

Tell me this, how is that the police, traffic "officers", ambulance drivers, the fire brigade and coastguard are all allowed to use thier radios whilst driving?

I know they have been trained and are constantly monitored but then again, so are a lot of other people but they are not allowed to do it.

If its being engrossed in conversation thats the problem; how come hands free is okay, or talking to your passengers for that matter.

I agree with the ban on using a phone whilst driving but it should be for all of us.
I hate people who use their mobiles whilst driving, they dont concentrate on the road because they are too busy taking the call and trying to conceal the fact from the police.
This law at present hasnt prevented motorists from using their phones every day at least one motorist in five will be using theirs illegally.
If the changed the law to second offence wil mean a one year driving ban then people might start obeying the rules.
you always take a risk of getting cought by holding your phone to your ear while driving. i always try to text or use hands free.
texting whilst driving is WORSE than holding the phone to your ear.!
yeah but less chance of getting caught!!!!
and as for answering the original question (before gina goes grrrrr again), your friend broke the law, she got caught, in my opinion the fine should have been more than 200, and I hope it's taught her a lesson not to do it again.
Text whilst driving !!!!! that's even worse.
Why are police officers and ambulance drivers allowed to use radios?

Balancing risk against public good.

Their need is greater than yours to tallk to your auntie Flo.

That need outweighs the risk

Now you might ask why radios for cabbies and the like are not coverred - that is a better question and I would say an oversight
