Someone can only have your permission to drive your car. They don't automatically get it by being insured to drive any car. I would think that it'd definitely be in your best interest to make sure thay have the relevant insurance before letting them drive your car. If in doubt, just don't let them drive it..

my partner let someone at work drive his car and he got a speeding ticket. he is now worried that he will be prosecuted for not checking he had insurance in his own right .
