No tax driving

I have to collect a car for my daugher. The tax ran out end of August, it is insured in her name and my insurance will cover me to drive it , it is MOTed. It will be taxed back to the start of September first thing Monday ( post office shut by the time i can collect it) .
If , or when, I get stopped what will happen ? I think that as the insurance is ok it will just be reported and as the taxwill be done on Monday it will be ok?
Anyone know ?

Eddie, do you really need to be told you cannot drive an untaxed car on the road?

Is there any reason you cannot do it now, on line?

You could be prosecuted for not having road tax if caught driving the car.

my son had the same problem with his motorbike, but taxed it online - and kept the printed receipt to show he had paid. don't drive without taxing - you will probably be caught out x

your daughter should apply online now, and you will be covered for the days until it can be displayed on the screen!

the driver will be prosecuted if there is no tax, and there are many automated machines checking believe me!

can't do it online as the insurance has only been done today and it will not be on the data base yet.

apparently there are 2 million people driving around with no insurance or tax in this country from what i read last week on the news join the gang m8 but knowing your luck you will get caught!

never drive your car unless its road legal - this includes road tax. If u are involved in an accident your insurance might get a bit stroppy if they find out

It's been repeated time and time again, having no tax (or having no MOT) does NOT effect your insurance at all.

I would keep trying on line today - once it's ins the database will pick it up
We got out MoT, came straight home and it was already registered at DVLA - fail to see why insurance won't be the same

Insurance can take a couple of days to appear on the database... it's the mid database that's used so it soon as it shows on there you can tax it online...

ojread , there is only one authority that issues MOTs the garage just acts as an agent and enters the MOT straight on to the data base as they print the MOT, one entry does both . But there are 100s of insurance companys and they send off details to the dvla once every 2 days or so , they do not instantly put it on the dvla data base it may be 2 or 3 days later, then the dvla have to manually enter the insurance details so that can be another few days.

ok, I can only tell you how it happened for us. I cant see why it cant be the same for ins. Why 'they', who ever they are, need to 'send everything off to DVLA' when doing on line I dont know

Been and done it no problem, checked that the insurance was on AskMid first
Several police cars passed but took no intrest.

It took 36 hours for the insurance to show up on AskMid by the way.

I do wish people wouldn't just have a wild stab about these things. I've lost count of the number of times on this site people have wrongly said no tax and/or no MOT = no insurance.

They are guessing from a position of ignorance. Why do they do it?

Even if you tax it online you can still be prosecuted. You don't get done for not having a tax disc, but for not displaying it properly. I had to ring the DVLA last year because a tax disc we had paid for had not arrived, and that is what I was told.

Lynda is right that you could be done for failing to display, as you only get the first five days of the month as grace.

However you are unlikely to get caught out, as you will not ping an ANPR camera.
