Does anyone care, or even know without looking it up, who's number one in the charts these days? When I were a lad it was so exciting hearing the chart rundown every week. Mi even used to write it down as fast as I could!

Nope, I couldn't even tell you who's popular with the youngsters these days.

I used to sit in my room with Radio Luxemburg and my NME, and tick off the top twenty as I heard each one.....
No idea, it was over 20 years ago that I last looked at the charts in the paper, I didn't recognise a single name, felt old, so never looked again.
Is it still Robin Thicke? Love the vid
I used to write them down in the early 1970s and I used to compile my own chart based on votes of all the children in my year.
And yes, i still look at the charts each Sunday night. It was Blurred Lines at number 1, then that was knocked off top spot by Icona Pop then John Newman, then Blurred Lines returned again. It was replaced this week by Avicii.
here you are Frank.

I must admit that I wouldn't recognise all of them- I probably know 25 out of the top 30. Some records do seem to get to number one now though with hardly any airplay (and probably very few sales)
can't be bothered, but then i don't listen to ads either.
if i was wearing one i'd take my off to you factor.
I think they all get through with very few sales these days, compared to how much 7" vinyl they used to have to sell. I'm glad I have heard of and quite like Avicii so that must mean I'm not completely past it, just almost.
Wow, I've heard of about 10/11 of those bands/singers, perhaps I'm not as out of touch as I thought, don't know the songs though. :-(
It started getting too confusing when they introduced the 'independent' Top 40 along with the gallup one. Now you have the download chart etc etc I cant be bothered with it all.#

I remember taping it off the radio and trying to pause it before Bruno Brookes started talking over it.
not the top tunes, no interest, but i did hear a really good bit of music the other day and thought i would find out what it was. do look out for any music programmes on BBC4 tv as they are quite eclectic in their output.
Last time I listened to the top 40 on the radio I think the No 1 was Another Brick in the Wall by Pink Floyd!!
Nope, haven't a clue. It used to matter VERY much when I was a teenager. One just HAD to know what was number one at all times. I listened to Radio Lux. although it wasn't always easy to get in Edinburgh on my little tinny transistor kept under the bedclothes so as not to keep others awake. It was always an exciting highlight of my week to listen to the top 20 chart. Now, I've never even heard of most of the singers/bands.... and what's more, I don't even care. ! .. and that's something I thought I'd NEVER say. Ah, whatever happened to that nice young lass.. that Vera Lynn girl?
Jan, doesn't she do the music thread at night on AB?
she got old, i have a wide range of musical tastes, but prefer to listen to classical and opera.
Oh, sorry, that's Mamyalynne
Welshy.. ah, so that's where she is. Good old Vera.
No idea.
Don't you still listen to music, JJ? I pictured you as someone who still went to trendy clubs.
(Incidentally, on that other Q&A site I referred to the other day someone was suggesting you -under another name on here- do have a deep interest in music, particularly music used in advert and trailer tunes. Strange but true.)
I recently purchased the song that is number 2 in the charts (John Newman) after liking his voice on the tracks he did with Rudimental.
