I'm finally getting a new fridge freezer delivered on Tuesday. When should I think about defrosting the old one and letting it stand ready for them to take away?
I don't have another freezer available to store stuff so the later the better. TIA
Filbert - when I got my new kitchen in last year I was like you - could you if you have the strength - move and plug your old fridge somewhere else - anywhere -and keep it running and when new fridge comes all you have to do is move your stuff in - you don't need to defrost or lose food at all.
sorry missed that you wanted them to take it away - my kitchen men took mine away. And we also have a disposal council to take things like that away for free too. I am in Belfast.
Frozen food remains frozen for 24 hours - so if you knew the time new fridge was coming you could have it out on counter top a few hours before they come. Then it would be empty for them and you could get your stuff in as quickly as possible any old way and sort out later.
The fridge I'm getting rid of is about 15 years old and when defrosting it I have to have several towels at the ready...nightmare.
Can I plug in and use the new one straight away?
Thanks all. Another question.....are they easy to move? It's been a while and I really ought to clean behind it before they bring in the new one!!! Bear in mind though that I'm a single female...with no available help at the mo....
I suggest that you get someone to help you move it, if you have not cleaned underneath/behind it for some time. The delivery guys/gals may not take too kindly to hanging around whilst you do it. Good luck.
It is very easy to pull your freezer out - side by side - I clean mine every month. So sorry Filbert don't be frightened at what you see behind the fridge. Remember to clean the walls aside of the fridge - give them a good clean too before new fridge is put in. I am on my own too.. It is easy enough.
