Peter has died after suffering from tongue cancer.

Another sad loss.

The Monkees were hugely underrated as a band - apart from their amazing line of hits from Boyce and Hart, their own songs were fabulous.

Micky Dolenz has one of the finest rock and roll voices I have ever heard anywhere.

Peter played the 'dorky' one, but off camera he was vociferous in his complaints about being manipulated by the studio bosses.

Very sad.

Indeed - biting social satire wrapped up in boy-band sweetness - they were so good at doing that. Goffin and King working their magic again.
The firsy LP I owned was the Monkees.....I was very fond of them!!
They may have started as a 'manufactured' band - but went on to be much more - Mike Nesmith wrote some great songs in the 70s.

A more introspective song than usual seems to fit with an RIP :

Aww, that Was lovely Dave. So fresh faced there!...
Peter Tork was probably the most proficient musician in the band and although he played bass he was a better guitarist and keyboard player - the piano introduction for "daydream believer" was his work. he was also a pretty handy writer -

I used to like them, sad news.

RIP Peter
