graphics card

i've installed a radeon graphics card in my computer and had a few crashes after start-up. the motherboard has on-board graphics.do i need to uninstall the on board graphics if so how?i've been told they might conflict hope someone can shed some light on the problem for me . the motherboard is an asus p5p-800vm and the graphics card is a radeon 9500 atlantis pro.

It would need to be disabled in the BIOS.

thanks dodgyshirt. where in the bios would i find it and do you think this would cause the computer to crash?

Not familiar with that board as I avoid any with onboard graphics like the plague but it will probably be under the Advanced heading and then Chipset/Graphics sub-heading.
Look for Intel which is the type of graphics on this mobo.
It should give you the option to disable the Intel onboard graphics when a GFX card is fitted.
I' m sure this could be a reason for the crashes.
Also visit ATI site to make sure you have the latest drivers for the card.

You may be able to disable the on board graphics from Device manager, this you can access by right clicking on the my computer icon / properties, go to display and disable the device that you do not want to use.

thanks for the advice, i went to ati w/site and downloaded update for the card and comp went mental throwing up warnings one after another.i'm a bit of a novice and didn't feel confident changing settings especially in bios so took out card and deleted software.computer is now back to normal.in future i'll leave well alone.again thanks, i,ll leave it up to my son when he gets home from uni.(if it goes all pete tong i can blame him)
