I see many requests on here from posters to other posters to admit when they have got it wrong, if you are able to do that, most of the time you will be admired and may be listened to in the future and taken seriously.

The problem we have with this government, and half the reason we struggle to get out of this mess, is they can't find it in them to do this, the result is that people will no longer do as they ask, and refuse to believe in what they say even if the evidence is there.

This morning on TV we have Matt Hancock making such a stupid statement it was past ridiculous. Quote. The PM was right in saying schools are safe, and for teachers, but he had to close them because children can pass the virus. un quote.

Now correct me if I'm wrong, is this not like me saying my central heating boiler is safe to use, but I closed it down because it was leaking deadly fumes. This idiot is just one big creep, he couldn't get any further up the PM backside if he tried.

It would be very unusual for a politician to apologise for getting something wrong because they know we would just lose confidence in anything further they have to say.
Completely different to one of us admitting we got something wrong.
TC // children can pass the virus. un quote.//
Nothing stupid about that. The childeren could be asymptomatic and unknowingly pass the virus on.
er yes
or no

I think the teachers have come out particularly badly on this. We dont give a toss about the kids - they wont die anyway, but us twenty year olds might!
anyone can ( pass it on)
and we can test the hypothesis
as other countries have kept schools open and you can see if the spread is thro the schools by spread patterns

just as we knew old people homes were affected because we noticed they all got it and died

A bit like saying "We won the argument, but I regret we didn’t convert that into a majority for change."

Danny , again you've miss the point. Read again and understand the point I'm making.

Is the point you are making that Matt Hancock is an idiot and that the Tories have made a total mess of handling this health crisis?
Question Author
12.23 They would get a lot more support if only they did own up to getting it wrong. Instead they spend hours we haven't got trying to wiggle out of a wrong doing. Admit it, get it over and done with, and move on, but no chance of that it seems.

Everyone sees the U-turn.
But they cannot admit to a U-Turn because that would be admitting they were wrong.
So they deny a U-Turn and deny they were wrong. Even though everyone remembers Johnson saying on Sunday that schools would reopen on Monday and that they were safe, and then closing them on Tuesday because they weren’t.
Unfortunately the impression is that the Government are shifty and lying.

12.34, many governments have made mistakes, not just the UK, but don't sit there making these stupid statements, and wasting time.
TC, the point I as making was that Matt Hancock did not get it wrong. As there are changes in matters to do with Covid then changes have to be made to counteract those changes.
Question Author
Should be to 12.36
Question Author
Danny you're still not getting it.
TC, read your OP ' stupid statemen or what' which I gave my answer to at 12.26.
[email protected], You are wasting your time trying to get Danny to agree with you , he suffers with tunnel vision, and is so besotted with Boris he can see no wrong in him. Think its called hero worship.
//TC, the point I as making was that Matt Hancock did not get it wrong. As there are changes in matters to do with Covid then changes have to be made to counteract those changes.//

There were no changes to cause such a radical change of direction in the 24 hours or so between "Schools will definitely open" and "Schools will remain closed." Furthermore, Mr Hancock suggested that the PM had to close schools because children can pass on the virus. That fact wasn't discovered in that 24 hour period either, Danny. It had always been known. Very little changed between the two announcements; all that had changed was the Prime Minister's mind because quite frankly, neither he nor any of his ministers are very well equipped in crisis management. The very last people you want taking important decisions at times of crisis are today's career politicians. They will argue until the cows come home with the EU over the price of beetroot but ask them to decide whether the schools should open or remain closed and it all gets a bit too much for them.
Question Author
Danny, lets see if I can make this really easy for you. PM and Hancock are still declaring schools to be (SAFE) but then say/ admit that the virus can be spread in school. My question to (you) How can a school be classed as safe, if the virus can be spread in school. "Conclude" there is no such thing as a safe school.
The schools are open.

Just thought I’d point that out ;-)
Question Author
13.05, thanks for that! but I'm sure you know that we are on about full attendance. Just thought I'd point that out :0)
There are different questions poised in OP.
First, people have got to realise that they are wrong before there is even a chance of admitting they are wrong - many will never admit they are wrong eg as seen last week at Capital Hill certification interruption, Trump (maybe) but his supporters still believe the election was stolen so are unlikely to admit they/he are wrong.

Hancock perhaps erroneously?!., gave a false statement. Politicians lie, spin and weasel sometimes... but you are correct, that behaviour erodes trust further.
