Yet again we have another country burning to the ground.,And yet still we have people complaining they are not able to get on a polluting plane to go on their so called well earned holiday abroad. Incredible greed and selfishness.

Yes indeed. First world problems. Incidentally I wld love to get on a plane but mine wld be to see family on another continent. It’s been 2.5 years and I was supposed to fly there last March when lockdown hit. My parents are elderly and my mum has been dx with cancer. But South Africa is still on the “red” list. So in my case I believe hopping in a plane is a good reason -...

NJ //I imagine, tc, you are suggesting that "climate change", rather than people with matches, is the cause. If that's so, could you explain how climate change caused a forest fire in Siberia. I'm genuinely intrigued.//
“The extraordinary forest fires, which have already burned through 1.5m hectares (3.7m acres) of land in north-east Siberia have released choking smog across Russia’s Yakutia region, where officials have described this summer’s weather as the driest in the past 150 years. And that follows five years of hot summers, which have, according to villagers, turned the surrounding forests and fields into a tinderbox.”

Well well naomi@ 23.18, thats a very immature / silly assumption you have made there ( stuck in my motor home) I would have expected better from you. At least my motor home has given me three long holidays this year, how many have you managed this year, or are you totally reliant on social media sites to fill your day as soon as you open your eyes in a morning? Is this the only place you can get your voice heard? As for the rest of the personal attacks where the real sour grapes lay, who again have little to do each day, apart from the odd £500 two nights stay in a shed with a plastic tub of warm water to sit in WOW! I will carry on enjoying sitting in my motor home until I have the desire to pull away and visit another destination, thats what I do when I open my eyes There's a lot more out there to be seen and enjoyed other than looking at a keyboard and getting angry every day/night to no real outcome if the truth is known. But have a good a day as possible.
Teacake - Like Ms Thunberg, you appear to assume that chippy superior lectures to people wo exercise their right not to think the same as you do, is going to make a fundamental change to the world around you.
Clearly - as this thread demonstrates - you are not going to win hearts and minds by being aggressive towards people who argue your point with you.
Climate change will occur when governments change policies, not when individuals lecture people.
When China stops building coal-fired power stations at the rate of one a week, that will make the required difference, the odd plane fulll of holiday makers will be balanced by the tourist income derived from the nations to which they travel.
Hand-wringing about dubious science is never going to trump simple ecconomics, in this generation, or the next ones.

Maybe foreign travel for other than business is selfish but there are so many economies that would fail without tourism. Maybe a switch to fewer longer holidays would be the way forward, with more seaborne journeys to the end destination for example. The same amount of fossil fuel can carry a lot more travellers by sea than air. So every other year maybe a four week break away. No one needs to go to the more distant exotic places unless it's to see family, it's just become something people do, with a huge market built on the back of keeping up with the Joneses.

yeah but no but - isnt it the people ( not china that is!) that change the govt - that then changes the politicies
I love the lofty bit about finger pointing and superior lecturing to non-listeners. never a truer word !

//Carry on making the excuses for flying abroad for holidays, I do think the best one now( excuse) is they are being started deliberately, yep they can investigate that, and prove it,//
Lol, they have arrested people for starting fires, so hardly an excuse. You really do talk utter rubbish don't you.
