'Well done Mrs May ???? Her initial response was more 'how can I save my ar*** ' than help! I agree she made amends later but nothing will prevent that initial impression being how she is remembered!

Your faith is very touching, Mikey.

Dougie...it was clear within 24 hours, that the Council wasn't up the job, so I am glad that there some action at last....its never too late.
Mikey, don't you think a 'Well done, Mrs May' is in order? You're quick enough to pull her to bits at every opportunity, so perhaps it's time to demonstrate that you really are fair-minded - despite the impression you give.

Haha! You just can't bring yourself to say it, can you. How funny! :o)
I am surprised that we don't have a special crisis management team for situations like this who are deployed immediately. It seems there were many people trying to help but nobody who really knew how to manage them. I wouldn't expect every council to have the necessary expertise.
oh I see.... a gubmint offficial rang the town hall over the week end and got an answer phone saying they had all gone home

[otherwise I would ask why men who drink tea and polish leather chairs with their bottoms need to go over the west ken ten miles away and show other men how to drink tea and polish other leather chairs ....]
please please Nigh
we are talking about a mega dead situation
and you cant resist scoring petty political points
shame on you !

[PP takes the moral high ground with smirking self satisfied look on face]
"Well done, Mrs May"? I think she has been forced into this; personally don't think she gives a flying f*** about any those affected by this. Her behaviour has been bizarre to say the least.
Hence her epithet Maybot.

If only folk would stop hitting Teresa May all the time 'below the belt, and let her have chance to get on with matters. As it is there are examples here in AB of people saying she should have acted immediately and spoken to people in the street instead of members of Emergency Services. There is one chap here who had such a view and subsequently posted words to the effect that, if he were standing in a street near Grenfell Towers, the last person he would want to see would be Teresa May.

Obviously there has been a lot going on behind the scenes at No 10 because within less than a week a team has been assembled to take charge of Kensington and Chelsea Council.

Hans.
I agree with mikey, there was no suitable response from Kensington Council at all, they did not even seem to have an emergency plan.
It is great the the government have stepped in to bridge the gap but the point is that it should not have been necessary in the first place!
Peter Pedant, good morning my little stalker. Trust it’s not too hot for you. ;o)

There is no moral high ground to be had in this situation, but as is evidenced by some of the comments on these pages there is certainly a moral low ground.
lot's of things to look at here but how can the building get a fire certificate when it was coated top to bottom in flammable materials? I just cannot see why that did not fail the Fire Brigades own tests.
If Theresa May herself is saying that not enough was done to help the families of the victims I'm not sure why we should be saying....Well done, Mrs May....
It's good that an action team has been sent in at last - but it should have been there on the day after the fire, when it was immediately apparent that the local council just couldn't cope.

What also should have happened (and may have, but who knows?) is that a hit squad should have been sent into Kensington's Planning Department to sequester all documents relating to the refurbishment and inspections of the tower - and lock down all relevant IT systems too

I'm not saying that anyone will have been busy covering their tracks, but it doesn't hurt to make sure that this can't happen ...
seems that Mrs May is getting flak from all quarters no matter that she didn't start the fire. nor has she been seen to be doing nothing, taking over the reins at the council is a good step in the right direction.
@sunny-dave.....Lets be realistic. There wasn't a team standing by to take over the local Council. People had to be brought together along the lines of .....We'll need sunny dave on this one, but he's on Holiday at the moment.....mikey would be quite good but he's a Socialist.....Hans will keep digging away for facts, but often makes himself unpopular in the process....etc, etc.

Not easy to get a team together immediately because people would have to be released from their normal duties and other personnel engaged to cover those who were put on theteam which has been formed.

Hans.
Hans

some very good points there.
