He's not mentally unfit but he's showing signs he's heading that way. The decent thing to do is let him stay on till January and complete the term. He's standing down, no need to hound him out the door. I'm sure the team around him will handle it.

If that's the case, Mozz, why step down at all?  He gave no reason for stepping down- so it's perfectly legitimate for people to want him to leave office immediately.  If he can't serve next year, how can he serve for another six months?  Kamala wants the job, he wants her to have it- let her have it!

As for Mr Biden, leave him in place, he hasnt been running the country for a while so a few more months wont matter and then at least he can retire having done the full term.
