I think the gentleman's tirade probably had as much to do with the sight of the chief architect of the massive malaise in the Health Service standing in his ward surrounded by several walking health risks.

He may have been overly aggressive, but he is in fact correct in what he says.

As for the bow tie / pmpous link - not sure that holds water - he is not allowed to wear a tie, but perhaps feels that a degree of sartorial correctness is still appropriate to his position, so a bow tie satisifes he wish to appear professional, and fulfils the critera of the hospital dress code.

I think he was just someone who likes to be the centre of attention (hence the bow tie) and didn`t like being upstaged by David Cameron. He was jealous, basically.

i think his approach was uneccesarily aggressive and attention-seking, but the poit he made was entirely valid - dress clodes in hospital are enforced for a reason, and the PM's camera crew are not exempt.

Boo - two reasons - the most important is that germs are more easily harboured and spread on clothing - shirt sleeves, ties etc which is why they are not allowed, and rolled sleeves gives easier access for frequent hand and forearm washing to preserve cleanliness.

It seemed that somebody had done an assessment and determined that Cameron and Clegg, who were up close to patients, needed to be tieless and short-sleeved; whereas the camera crew, a good 10 feet away from the patients, didn't.

But Mr. Tit either wasn't involved in that or didn't agree, and decided to handle it poorly ...

On reflection, the surgeon may feel his outburst was inappropriate, but the point he made was still a valid one.
