Policeman in Ian Tomlinson trial
I have no connections with the Police whatsoever. But I respect their work and I am appalled that PC Simon Harwood has gone on trial over the death of Ian Tomlinson. From what I saw of the filmed footage, Tomlinson was being a pain by deliberately walking slowly to hold police up during what was an extremerly difficult time for them. He didn't die there and then but some time later, so it wasn't like the push killed him. The push didn't look severe either, so for someone to die as a result of that they must have had other health issues. Seems to me the system has given in to the eer-increasing blame culture in British society today. A decade or so ago and the claims of Tomlinson's loved ones would have been dismissed out of hand, and I hope that's the outcome of this trial. You?

Bad Apples in the Police force need to be rooted out.
A best, PC Simon Harwood's treatment of a member of the public was shameful. Someone with such a short fuse should never have been allowed to police a situation like the G20 summit. He has previous form for violence, he didn't own up until the above footage came to light, and a jury has already described his actions as “excessive and unreasonable” force.
It remains for another jury to say if he is personally guilty of not. Whatever their verdict, he is a disgrace to his uniform and should never be employed working with the public again.

<<Hopefully he will get away with it , just as that Paramedic driver did who killed a woman motorist who pulled out in front of him. >>
How disgusting -
to equate a Paramedic trying to help someone but simply showed lack of judgement
With the base actions of someone taking out their frustrations on a defenceless person ina deliberate and cowardly attack
The low moral standards of some people are yet again exposed in all their despicable tawdriness.

Nice to see the armchair Judge and Jury's here.
Perhaps the trial will show one way or another whether the action was out of proportion.
Yes it was caught no camera, but oftern the people filming somehow manage to 'miss' bits that do not conform to the way they want to portray events.
The old adage that the camera never lies is not true. It is easy to twist the truth with them

I am pleased that PC Simon Harwood is facing a court over his actions that day wrt Ian Tomlinson.
Certainly based upon video evidence in the public domain, it is difficult to see this as anything other than an excessive and unnecessary use of force. No officer went to help Mr. Tomlinson as he lay on the floor. Not one. It is difficult to see the actions of this officer and some others from the Special Response Unit as examples of uniformed thuggery, little better than the gangs they are supposed to combat.
A man died, either directly or indirectly due to the consequences of the actions of this officer. It is absolutely right that he should face a court to determine the facts of the matter. To attempt to minimise the potential gravity of the offence by likening it to a sales rush scrummage is fatuous.
