Northern Ireland Marches, should they ban them?

Watching MW this morning and was /am interested in peoples take on this, would banning such marches create even more violence?
Is it not time to forget something that took place over 300 years ago? and try to move forward.

i'm just curious because your pattern of responses would suggest that you agree and with those who condemn, bemoan and belittle the people of northern ireland (whether culturally or religiously), yet court favour with the sensible people of the thread who provide facts rather than fiction and contempt.

The answer to the violence in Northern Ireland is simple, bring in a squad of chinese police they would soon sort trouble makers out.

Have to agree totally with RATTER on page one and also add my own comments that there are the element in NI that don't want to end the violence and taunting of others. That's all the marches are done for to taunt another group who don't belong to your group. Pathetic and it will take many more generations to even come to terms with it being totally wrong.

The vast majority of marches and marchers don't do that. You sound like a prime candidate for a trip to BBC i-Player :-)
Did you know that Donegal County Council and the Irish Goverment subsidise and support the Donegal Orange Order. for example?

I didn't know and don't really care to be honest who supports them. In my opinion outdated and downright provocation in any form should be banned, but it seems because the parades by those supported from "on high" are ok. To be truthful, my reckoning is that Ireland should be one country, that the UK should not have any handling of it and NI should be given back to the south. Sorry if you don't like my opinions but they are just as valid an anyone else's on here I hope.

Your opinions are fine here, but I think you'll find they would go down like a lead balloon in the country you're talking about :-)
NI never belonged to the "South" in the first place. Now I am neutral on the subject of what should happen to NI. I will go along with the majority either way, but at least understand the history and the issues first.

When I said "go down like a lead balloon" that actually was a euphemism for "cause massive unrest on a scale previously undreamt of the British Isles in modern times"

Yes I had realised your phrase was more than it appeared to be, anything to do with NI and unrest, marches, religion etc is a concoction (sp?) of most things that lead to violence, killing etc. Just a pity they can't all grow up and not be brought up to hate one another. Oh and by the way, I know that latter statement to be true because I have a friend who comes from NI and they are told to hate the catholics which I think they call Fenians if that's how it's spelled.

I can assure you that, also having been brought up in NI, most people are not brought up to hate one another.
