Any Comments? Charles and Camilla yet Again

When you consider all the scandal, lives hurt, unhappiness and problems  etc that this relationship has caused over the years, it is such a shame that Charles didn't have the confidence to propose to Camilla 30+ years ago. 

If that had happened she wouldn't have flounced of in a fit of pique and married Andrew Parker-Bowles, only to end up having a longstanding affair with Charles instead.  

That said, I think it is right and proper that the couple do ask for forgiveness, as theirs was a very public affair I think the penitence should be just as public.

Sorry but who cares anyway? The church has become an anachronism and the wedding of two self indulgent rich people is of no interest to most of the population. Now... if it were Becks saying the prayer..... ;-)

I think, Netibiza, that the Prayer of Atonement is something along these lines:-

We salute you,
Holy Mary Virgin Mother of God the Son
and entreat you to obtain for us
such yeilding of ourselves to the Blessed Spirit,
that He may, in all things,

and that we may never again grieve Him
in thought, word or deed.

dear zmudge I bow to your better knowledge- after all I only slightly listened in church and mumbled under my breath - but we are not Catholics so why would we say the Prayer of Atonement  - I did love the peace and quiet of the surroundings so I was not really attending.

I understand entirely, netibiza. My younger days were spent in England and my religous upbringing was Methodist. However, it did not leave me at all religous and I subsequently did not find comfort in anything and abandoned all religion. Later on business circumstances took me to live and work for very many years in the former Soviet Union. There I became entranced, yes, that is the right word, by the choral singing of the Russian Orthodox Church which is unaccompanied by instruments. This led me into the Church itself where I found a contentment that has never left me, so much so that on return to England I established my business in Kensington solely so that I could attend the Russian Orthodox Church there !! And I still count myself lucky if I can understand one word in five of the language !! But the singing and services bring me great peace of mind.

oh zmudge that is a lovely story and yes I feel the same although over here in Ibiza I feel the English church has slightly lost its way - its all keep up with the jones's and gossip so I do not go anymore although I am a (private) believer.

So Lindy, if he had kept his affair well hidden he shouldn't have to apologise then??  I don't think that the fact that we all know about it should come into it at all.  If he and Camilla are truly religious and believe that they should apologise to 'God' for their sins then they could do this in private.

Apologising in public is unnecessary and, in my opinion, it makes it less meaningful.  Surely it is only being done to appease those who would like to cause trouble for them.

He had one constant affair with a lady he loved.  His ex wife had a string of affairs and was far more public about it than he.

FP as this is a wedding of the future 'Supreme Governor
of the Church of England' I think it is necessary and fitting for the couple to be seen to 'seek forgiveness' for the affair which has been on such public display.

Perhaps if the affair hadn't have happened the 'string' of affairs that Diana had wouldn't have happened either. Also bear in mind, that if the reports are to be believed, HRH was seeing Camilla even while he was on his honeymoon!!
If true, it made a mockery of the marriage before it had begun.

One reason the words of the "general confession" are not well known is that they are the words from the 1662 Prayer Book, whilst most services these days are from 'Common Prayer'
Of course I am talking about C of E service books - and Charles is a C of E.

Why can't they be left in peace. They were not the only 'sinners' here. Diana was also an aldultress, I've no idea about Andrew P B.
I'm sure most of us are not saints either.

Well I thought the wedding went better than expected.

I have so many mixed emotions re the wedding, part of me feels like i'm betraying Diana's memory but part of me wishes them well, at least he is at last making a decent woman out of her. She looked very elegant today in her outfits, and I felt her awkwardness, but I jsut can't forget about Diana and how much she meant to the country, so I wish them well, but do us all a favour and abdicate, go and spend your twilight years somewhere out of the puclic gaze and let William take his place as the heir to the throne.  Does anyone else agree?

Bearworld.  No I don't agree.  However, I think the Queen has a good few years yet.  (Anyway, I would rather have Harry as King  - he's more fun!)

Yes, I hope that Charles and Camilla do not feature in our newspapers or TVs again and that they fade away into oblivion. Sorry to offend anybody who likes them.
