More evidence of how enlightened and tolerant the religion of Islam can be....

http://www.jihadwatch...-to-christianity.html

How can anyone with any sort of free will place any credence in a religion so weak, so insular,so paranoid, so backward that it has to kill converts to another religion ?

And what is the penalty for atheism? Death, or something a bit less drastic?

I don't think they countenance atheism - you have to believe, at least notionally you have to perform the rites.

Don't forget that the extreme regime in Iran is not representative of mainstream Islam in other parts of the world, though - outside the Middle East, this might be disapproved of but would not be treated in such a draconian manner.
Too few today are prepare to seek the Martyr's Crown. This man is lucky that Islam offers him the opportunity to gain it.
He's a pastor, this man, too, not just a member of the public - he knew the risks but stands up for his faith. I wonder what the other members of his church in Iran are feeling right now.

I hear what you are saying Boxtops, and agree that the actions of an extreme and fundamentalist few should not be taken to mean all members of a pan-global religion are th same - but the thing I dont get is the cognitive dissonance it must take for moderate, peaceful, well meaning individuals to continue to allow themselves to be defined by a religion in which the true believers- namely, the fundamentalists, the extremists, those who believe that a 1400 year old book is the beginning and end- can act in such a barbaric exercise.

Why would any sane individual wish to be associated with such backward, violent intolerance?
Iran is also a theocracy. The powers in that country would see his actions as a challenge to their authority.

And people wonder why im an atheist, generally speaking all the different religions all come back to (believe in me or you will be killed!!)

Religion is the biggest curse on earth!

and remember when these people kill people that are not of their faith (we call them extremists) they are just following their Gods words! if you don't follow the words of your God you are not a true believer/follower.
//Why would any sane individual wish to be associated with such backward, violent intolerance? //

Because they are believers in their faith, simple as that! its what their Bible/Koran teaches them.
What else would you expect from any of the profoundly primitive Abrahamic faiths? They are all arrogant and demanding of total compliance to their doctrine.

Their big success was achieved through their laws against heresy and blasphemy being punishable by death. Traditionally, opposition has been simply eliminated with the attitude that it is the only rightous thing to do.

If these faiths were invented today they would be classified as promoting terrorism. The so called "moderates" pretend that this philosophy is not part of their faith but it is there in black and white in all their Holy texts.

Still we must tolerate them or we would be as bad as them, but to respect them would be to approve of their disgusting philosophy.
Well said beso!!!

This whole report is from an anti-Islamic website and lobby. First of all I am not saying that it does not happen and is not happening to this person (Yousef or Youcef, they are not even sure about his proper name) whatever his name is. But we are not sure that he has been held only for apostasy or something else? Then of course Iran has decided not to take dictation from USA & Co and as a result has been declared as one of the Axis of Evil so they have to portray Iran as bad as possible. Same Iran was apple of the eye for western countries just over 35 years ago for very well-known reasons.

However if nothing like that then still you may call it a law applied in a country.
As far as apostasy is concerned then nowhere in Quran it says that an apostate should be punished to death. However there are verses in Quran which speak opposite instead.

[Behold, as for those who come to believe, and then deny the truth, and again come to believe, and again deny the truth, and thereafter grow stubborn in their denial of truth — God will not forgive them, nor will guide them in any way.] (An-Nisaa' 4:137)

Please let me know how someone can believe, then disbelieve and then believe again if he is supposed to be killed the first time he disbelieve?

[And say [O Muhammad]: 'The truth [has now come] you're your Sustainer: let, then, him or her who wills, believe in it, and let him or her who wills, reject it.] (Al-Kahf 18:29)

No, it isn't.

Quran (8:12) - "I will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve. Therefore strike off their heads and strike off every fingertip of them"

There's plenty more where that came from - and from elsewhere. Sickening!

I agree 100% with LazyGun. Like I said - madmen!
//Quran (8:12) - "I will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve. Therefore strike off their heads and strike off every fingertip of them"//

But im sure it actually means something totally different to Keyplus :-)
Hahaha – How many times I would sort your twisted meanings and out of context posts. As many time as I will have to. You have posted this,

////Quran (8:12) - "I will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve. Therefore strike off their heads and strike off every fingertip of them"///

However I do wish (waste of time though) that you have had a look at very next verse as it does not take much of an effort. However if you are only copying and pasting from a website then of course you would only see what “THEY” want you to see, so I will help, here is the next verse,

Quran 8: 13. This because they contended against Allah and His Messenger. If any contend against Allah and His Messenger, Allah is strict in punishment.

And just few verses before that one,

Quran 8:9. Remember ye implored the assistance of your Lord, and He answered you: "I will assist you with a thousand of the angels, ranks on ranks."

Obviously it happened during the Battle of Badar.
And perhaps further down,

Quran8:15. O ye who believe! when ye meet the Unbelievers in hostile array, never turn your backs to them.

And yes there are many more soon before and after these ones came from, let me know if you need more help in pulling yourselves out of copying and pasting “ONLY” habit.
Ratter, you were right, but see the next verse Keyplus has posted to help me out.

//Quran 8: 13. This because they contended against Allah and His Messenger. If any contend against Allah and His Messenger, Allah is strict in punishment.//

Well, that's all right then. Most comforting. :o)

Keyplus, //However if you are only copying and pasting from a website then of course you would only see what “THEY” want you to see,.....//

I'm not sure who 'THEY' are, but when I read the Koran (I have two copies) I see exactly what's there - and despite your continual protestations, it makes far from pleasant reading.
What appears to be the problem with copying and pasting, surely it is the most reliable way of giving exact quotation!!
Oh Ratter! Don't be silly! Keyplus gets his Koran in front of him and laboriously types the verses out word for word every time! Coo... I thought everyone knew that! :o)
Most like Naomi, most likely.

Well he does have divine help :-)
