Should they have been given permission to hold this protest, on our day of remembrance?
Why aren't the moderate Muslims voicing their objections against these extremists?

/// If American/British troops had never heard of, or at least gone to war in Iraq, Afghanistan, or indeed any mainly Muslim country, would they be so disrespectful.///
They chose to come to our country, have and bring up their children in our country, have them educated in our country, take full advantage of our countries NHS, and some to take full advantages of our benefit system along with us providing some of them with a roof over their heads.
Then surely they should in return support not only their adopted country but also our armed forces, who they may one day depend on to protect and defend them and their families?

<<they should in return support not only their adopted country but also our armed forces>>
Remebrance Day is not about 'supporting' our armed forces.
According to The Royal British Legion it is to remember, mourn and honour the fallen.
<< remember those who fought for our freedom during the two World Wars. But we also mourn and honour those who have lost their lives in more recent conflicts>>

Em, fair point, my figures were way off, but that makes my point even stronger, of all the millions (then) of Muslims in the UK, this group can get the support of only a few hundred tops!
AOG - I didn't insult you, I insulted the reactionary right wing fools who are being sucked in by all this, if you chose to put yourself in this category that's your doing.
To equate this gang of muppets to the Nazis of the early part of the last century.. the actual threat, is absolutely ridiculous.. I'm sure you'd find more Nazis in the UK today than members of this group, that's my point!
The only reason they are even a niggle are because of the massive amount of publicity they're getting. What threat have they shown us? They've got a poppy, a lighter and some scarves! Whoopee doo! They don't threaten anyone they just really Fosters off very very large number.
Instead of equating them to the Nazis, I'd equate them to Robbie Savage, getting far more publicity than something so pathetic and annoying merits!

Yes, I think the demonstration should go ahead, but it should be moved away from the main event and given no media coverage whatsoever. If these people want freedom of speech, they've got it - but that doesn't mean we have to listen.
Anjem Choudary is British. He was born in this country and is very well educated, so for those who say 'send him back', there is nowhere to send him. Having said that, he was co-founder of the banned Islamic organisation Al-Muhajiroun, he praised the attacks of 9/11 and 7/7, and he supports the implementation of Sharia Law throughout the UK.
For the record, I think the Palestinians have been - and still are - treated absolutely disgracefully, but last year's poppy burning episode, and the forthcoming demonstration, are both just the tip of the iceberg where Mr Choudary and his cohorts are concerned. I strongly suspect that these people would happily see all non-Muslim westerners dead, whatever their political allegience, and in my opinion anyone who doesn't recognise that is naive in the extreme.
To quote him in a CNN interview - “You can't say that Islam is a religion of peace, because Islam does not mean peace. Islam means submission."
That says it all. He's a dangerous man.

Having attended any number of Remembrance services at the Cenotaph, and been proud to attend the Remembrance concert at the Albert Hall, I can say that this is about not only honouring the fallen, but the money collected by the selling of Poppies and the concerts, go towards to the families of the fallen, and those who have been injured in the service of their country.
And i made the analogy of Nazism because that is how it started in Germany, not with thousands of flag waving Nazi supporters of holding a rally in Berlin, but with a handful of like minded individuals, with hatred for people who they considered inferior to them. I am aware how simplistic that sounds, but it only takes a few to kick things off.

/// I didn't insult you, I insulted the reactionary right wing fools who are being sucked in by all this, if you chose to put yourself in this category that's your doing.///
Since it was myself who entered this post, then one could not help but assume that you were addressing me.
If this wasn't the case instead of saying "if you chose to put yourself in this category that's your doing", perhaps a more polite approach would have to said " I am sorry AOG if you thought I was referring to you, but I wasn't".
Surely you can see that this would have not created any misunderstanding?
To get back to your point of them being only a small group, well maybe they are, but they have an audience of many hundreds of young and impressionable Muslims, and we all know what that can lead to.

Which makes a very good reason why a new 'Traitor Law' should be introduced, in which all British subjects who act against this country, could be imprisoned for a very long time,as a lesser option to putting them up against the wall and shot.

zeuhl, were there Jews, gypsies, homosexuals in the SS, Nazi party, one would suspect not. They had been sent eventually to the gas ovens in the endless concentration camps dotted around, or simply shot and buried. They may not have all be aryan, and who knows what that actually means. I don't think they did, but blond hair, blue eyes was the order of the day, very few would have looked like that, just an ideological idea of a superior race.
And Naomi is right about Choudary, a very dangerous man, and from any number of sources, not DM in case someone again mentions it, he does live on state benefits.

<<who act against this country>>
that would be a subjective political distinction.
for example, many British people would attest that Nick Griffin is 'acting against this country' or indeed accuse certain bank executives of the same.
Such a law would indded be 'new' by British standards in fact it would be profoundly un-British - perhaps if Old Git wants to live by Syrian-type rules he should go and live there.

Em - sorry i don't get your point here ...
<<zeuhl, were there Jews, gypsies, homosexuals in the SS, Nazi party, one would suspect not.>>
Indeed not. My point:
<<I think the Nazis might have struggled to gain power if Aryans had only constituted 4.5% of the German population. >>
was that comparing islamic extremists today to the rise of the Nazis did not make sense because the Nazis were able to claim relevance to the vast majority of Germans while only 4.5% of Brits are Muslim.

/// I think the Nazis might have struggled to gain power if Aryans had only constituted 4.5% of the German population.///
Very careful wording on your part, but shouldn't it have read,
I think the Nazis might have struggled to gain power if 'Nazi party members', had only constituted 4.5% of the German population.
Then we could have said, you are wrong because they 'DID' managed to convince most of the German population, and they did gain power.

aog, it wasn't a direct insult to anyone specific but, if I'm being honest, I would still call anyone who reacts to these stories by claiming they are reflective of a major threat on Britain from Muslims as foolish.
Maybe the nazis did start out as a small group of like minded individuals, but there have been plenty of small groups of like minded individuals who haven't gone on to pose any threat to anyone. I'm sure there are more people in this country who don't want to see sharia law imposed on the UK than do, quite a substantial amount more, so why should we take these idiots seriously?
Organised groups showing this level of hatred should be monitored by the police, they can then gauge if there's a real threat, the only effect the media coverage of these little protests is having is creating fear and animosity where there need not be any.
