Or are you suggesting the current muslim extremists are a threat similar to the Nazis in 1920s Germany because they will be able to persuade the other 95.5% of our population to also be muslim extremists.

I think that might be more difficult than it was for Hitler to persuade fellow Germans that National Socialism and the natural superiority of their shared race would bring them prosperity.

The treason law is not new, it was in force throughout WW2 and even after.

William Joyce (Lord Haw-Haw) was the last person to be put to death for treason, in 1946.

Well apart from the fact that Joyce was an Irish citizen and not eligible for charges of treason ...

He resided in Germany and directly worked with the German propoganda ministry to aid the German war effort.

That is very different from accusing British citizens enacting political behaviour in this country you disagree with of being 'traitors'.

I might be misunderstanding something here - and I've no doubt someone will tell me if I am - but I really can't see a correlation between the ideology of Islamic extremists in this country and the rise of the Nazis in Germany. Unlike the Muslims we're talking about, Hitler's philosophy supported the indigenous population.

naomi, i put the two together so blame me. I did it simply to show that it doesn't take many to start a war, just a handful of madmen, or call them ideologists, hell bent on imposing their will on others. Shout loud enough seems to be the motto, and you will eventually be heard.

Makes you wonder why we go to places like Afghanistan when the enemy is over here. Instead of trying to sort out the Taliban they should be indoctrinated in the British way of life. If they don't agree tell them to fcuk off elsewhere!

Em, the thing is Hitler didn't impose his will on the German people. He said what they wanted to hear - and they welcomed his words. (Of course he didn't tell them about the death camps, but that's another story).

Whether or not Islamic fanatics ever succeed in imposing their will on the people of this country remains to be seen. Yes, the Muslim population is growing faster than any other section of society, but I can only hope that future generations who will have the benefit of a western education will no more welcome living under an extreme regime than the rest of us.

Going back to the OP - the rank and file Muslims who I know and work with are as disgusted as we are at this proposal - don't forget that there were a fair few Muslim people who fought on our side in the two wars, too.

Having posted that, we would be naive to ignore the fact that the world has changed considerably since 9/11 - as have some of its people.
