Books
Reports in today's papers saying that 4 million children in the UK do not own any books. I find this hard to believe. What do you think?

Always read to my kids and grandkids and all are voracious readers. Sure they still like their computer games and are in numerous sports clubs etc. but never without a book going to bed. We should also introduce kids to libraries at a young age too.
Why, everytime someone uses the word K-I-n_d~L'e , is it highlighted in red? Now I'm just testing when I say, tonight I shall kindle the fire with bits of chopped up pine.
Kindles are just one more route to reading and brilliant for those travelling - and the selection is amazing.
Also they are great for re-reads and today a reply from Sandy R has had me ordering Hemingway's A Moveable Feast, his (EH's) writing being so wonderfully descriptive and evocative.....£5-99 for kindle.
I agree with all comments as to encouraging our young ones to read - my youngesty one devours them too!

I think if that's true it is a real disgrace! I've read literally thousands of books in my life, I read every day. I usually have at least four books on the go at one time (depending on which room I feel like reading in.) I don't like the kindle idea, I think books smell nice, especially the old ones.....and I like to feel the pages and the binding. The government/councils should stop cutting funding to libraries and encourage children to go and take out free books.
I have a kindle. My library has been closed for nearly a month. I still need to read. Oxfam has been a source of books but not really all that I need. Children need books but they are no use if the children are unable to read.

The minute my head hits the pillow I'm asleep. If I pick up a book in the evening it sends me to sleep even earlier and weekends are too precious to be spent with my head in a book. I wish I didn't but I find reading really hard work. Maybe when I retire I'll have more time for it, but I'll have to sit up straight in a cold room or I'll doze off I know I will!
