Why don't we see blacks, Asians, French, Australian, Muslim, Chinese etc etc behaving like this?

You've definately noticed an increase that wasn't there when you were young

But then I've moved from growing up in London to a small village
I'm also not daft enough to think that my personal experience is indicative of a general trend!
There were certainly enough cases of younsters getting legless and acting up when I was younger! I had a few friends that had to have their stomachs pumped.
I was first heavily drunk before I was 12
You might not see this in France but actually have a much worse problem with alcoholism than we do - it's just their relationship with booze is different.
I also think if you look at Russia and some of the Nordic countries you'll see a lot of trouble

I don't know - but I certainly wouldn't draw conclusions on the whole nation based on my own personal experience and pictures from the Mail!

I absolutely agree with you sp1814 that British people seem to have a higher embarrassment threshold.
A few years ago I watched a crowd in Indepencence Square in Kyiv celebrate Independence Day. Most of the crowd had been drinking to excess (though possibly not in the same binge-drinking fashion). The behaviour however was completely different. There was no aggrsssion and very little noise, astonishingly, being made. There were no groups of young people staggering about behaving boorishly, and no underdressed females, even though the weather was warm. I'm sure there were daft things done by people in their state of inebriation, and quite possibly domestic violence also. But no public "high jinks"
I make no value judgment about that. Perhaps the behaviour we see betrays some good about Brits, I don't know. But it is certainly different.
I think perhaps one can point to the growth of the town centre pub-disco, where loud music is played, cheap drink served and, crucially, there are comparatively few places to sit down. One of the joys of drinking abroad for lazy so-and-sos like me is to be able to relax at one's table with waiter/waitress service. Here things are simply much more rushed and frenetic.

I think the most common answer is that it's a north Europe thing. It may have to do with grain instead of grape. It may have to do with long, cold winter nights. Just based on my own observation (no statistics!), I've seen drunks rolling round in public in Russia, the Baltic states, Scandinavia and Britain. (Not Germany, but perhaps I was just lucky.) Not in countries bordering the Mediterranean.
I've also seen it in British-settled countries like Australia and New Zealand, though again not Canada or the USA.
Sothern countries may well have alcoholism problems as jake says, but that's not quite the issue sp1814's getting at, I don't think; it's more to do with binge drinking culture and a lack of inhibition about being drunk in public.

The change in lecensing laws has ruined many pubs and clubs. Before the law changed people were getting ready to go out at 7pm/8pm....not quite late enough to be half cut before you walked out the door.
