Be interesting to see what happens to JT, especially as Luis Suarez got eight games for abusing Patrice Evra.

By the way - I think we should avoid the 'if Ferdinand...' stream, because quite simply - black players who use racist epithets against white players and black fans who shout racist insults from the stands are thin in the ground.

It's useless for us to say, "well, if the boot were on the other foot..." because we literally have nothing to base that opinion on. We have no evidence...so we can only suppose and make guesses.

It's like sayings "well, if women were predominantly bosses, and men were their underlings, women would be just as sexist as men are".

Possibly, but we have no way of knowing.
Did you ever see that youtube footage sp when a chap asked him to sign an autograph..."To Wayne..I'm sorry" while that stuff about Wayne Bridge was going on?
He didn't seem happy but just walked away.
He certainly has an inner strength.
WBA He actually says are you F******* joking

Winding me up ?
I'm glad Terry is getting his day in court. Not a nice bloke, neither is the rest of his family by all accounts. Who would have a thieving mother?
Bring us real crimes and not playground sticks and stones nonsense from overpaid prima donnas kicking a ball.

If footballers aren't man enough to take an'insult', get out of the profession and take up knitting.

Totally unfair to bring his mother and the rest of his family into the debate, just as it wouldn't be admissible evidence in a court of law, it also has no bearing on the case in this debate.

Apart from that, would it also be acceptable to say Ferdindand deserved it because his family is...............whatever.

None of us can pick or relatives, and most footballers come from backgrounds that are not the very best examples of a 'good family background'.
<<an enough to take an'insult'>>

insults are part of life and especially football

racism is illegal, ugly, corrosive and unacceptable.

massive improvements have been achieved in the last 25 years and this case will need to reinforce that. John Terry was simply stupid enough to put himself in the frame.

aog you have no problem bringing rooneys name into the evra and the liverpool players post and i could say the same thing

just as it wouldn't be admissible evidence in a court of law, it also has no bearing on the case in this debate.
What have we come to?

Watching the TV news reports on John Terry's charging, I was amazed to see that in the video clip of the alleged incident his mouth was blanked out, so we could not see his lip movements.

Would a player's leg movements have been similarly blanked out, if that player's attack on another player, had been a chargeable offence?

No this and the Luis Suarez case starts to show how all this so called racist verbal abuse allegations are getting completely out of hand, so much so that they become headline news on the media.

Since both Terry and Suarez have the full support of their team's players and management, I can only assume that these type of allegations will only have a negative effect on race relations.
>> all this so called racist verbal abuse allegations are getting completely out of hand, <<

two cases ........completely out of hand
Would a player's leg movements have been similarly blanked out

Actually, yes, footage and photos have been withdrawn or blanked out when there has been a serious injury

playing away when they should be playing at home also makes the headlines

I wasn't referring specifically to just these two cases.

There have been many such allegations, with certain celebrities, MPs, police etc, facing suspension and sackings.

You were probably watching the news before the watershed. We don't really want role models like the England captain mouthing the C-word while children are watching. Likewise, newspaper reports have written his comment as " ****ing black c*** ".

Standards may have dropped in the AOG household, and this foul mouth rant be be acceptable to you, but most people do not want to hear or see it.

The reason I used the Rooney episode was to try and illustrate the difference between physical abuse and verbal abuse on the field of play, that being one could just walk away unharmed and the other would have to limp away or be carried off in very much pain.

My criticism was about that ABer's need to bring Terry's family into the debate which held no bearing on the case whatsoever.

So please don't accuse me of making unfair comparisons.

Yes obviously when to show serious injuries with for example lots of blood and goo displayed, they are then withdraw or blanked out for the good of viewers sensitivities.

But blanking out someone's mouth, so as to prevent anyone lip-reading what may be certain no, no, words is plain ridiculous.

This kind of thing happened when we weren't allowed to hear Jerry Adams voice, it was then dubbed by an actor.

thing is aog askyourgran was pointing out the terry family are not angels and while i agree it has no bearing on the case you bring rooneys name into the evra racial abuse case

aog >> My criticism was about that ABer's need to bring Terry's family into the debate which held no bearing on the case whatsoever <<

rooneys name has what do to with the evra racial case , nothing !
