Should the hunting ban be repealed?

Not a fan of hunting with hounds myself - seems barbaric to me - but the current legislation is pretty toothless. Should the law be repealed?

DF, we know, but those who like hunting will continue to do so, irrespective of the banning order, those who oppose it will go on doing so. personally i can't stand the idea that any animal is chased to exhaustion and then torn to pieces by dogs, but then i don't believe in cruelty to any animal, fluffy or otherwise.
Also would say that it's not toffs that do these so called sports, that word smacks yet again of class envy, but is practised by people from across the social spectrum.

DF, are you sure about that, because i know any number of people who have horses, or share the cost of owning one, with stabling fees etc, these are not people one usually associates with the upper classes, landed gentry, but ordinary folk, who just happen to like riding. if you have ever been to a point to point meeting which i have, these are held on farmers land, you will see the same people. Most country people i am sure would say the townies don't know what they are talking about when it comes to hunting,
and perhaps they are right, but i still hate it.

DF, credit you are a bit of a class warrior, a downer on so called toffs, i have noticed it with other thread, posts, but you really shouldn't think blood sports of any kind are the preserve of the nobility, or whatever passes for it these days. Angling, badger baiting, cock fighting, fox hunting are all reprehensible if you think the animal welfare is at stake. No one knows what they say, as they are dumb animals, in so far they can't tell us directly what is wrong, if they could i am sure they would say please don't do it. The cull of bears in America has caused a storm of protest recently, this was in upstate New York, where you can buy a hunting licence for a small fee and then go out and shoot one. Not sure if you have to be proficient, so can't see that being right either. Hunting is almost always a divisive issue

i would not put angling on the list , no way could i sit on a canal path for 12 hours catch 5 fish to thrown them back in but each to their own

i have no problem with shooting the animals if you are going to eat them or if they are a danger to other animals.

they shoot down on the farm , the farmer does not own a gun when he has problems with foxes he and the other farmers in the area get a marksman that lives not far away in to deal with the problem

If a mob of chavs were caught using their Pit Bulls to kill pet cats they'd feel the full weight of the law. The newspapers would vilify them.
The magistrate who dealt with them might be a huntin' man, dressing in a Pink coat and astride a horse, he'd also be use dogs to kill small animals.

no one can say for sure that angling isn't cruel, a barb in the mouth, being pulled out of the water, and then smacked on the head to kill it, that is the truth of the matter, and many anglers don't throw them back in, but stick them in a sack and take home to eat, perhaps feed to the cat.
Some do it for the sport aspect, but is that really any better, in the case of large prized fish, they could be caught lots of times, and then returned to the water, but no one knows what damage has been done. Most people don't like to think of things this way, like killing animals for food because it's distressing. I understand about hunting, fishing and shooting, doesn't mean to say i necessarily agree with it.

Sandyr, you seemed to have fallen into the same trap, a sport for the rich, no it isn't, and time to stop spouting the same class ridden nonsense.
The point to point meetings i went to, were held to get enough money, to goes towards supporting the hunt, so involved farmers, their workers, landowners, accountants, celebs, and uncle tom cobley and all, go there and see for yourself. No one said it's right, but it's the way of the world, and you can ban these so called sports all you like, it won't necessarily stop them doing it.
