Do you think the best Answer is good or pointless?
And do you think it is an excuse to sneak another advert onto the page?

Hello Ab Editor,
I am not convinced having the OP pick the best answer and for it to be displayed prominently is a good idea. They are likely to just pick an answer which mirrors their own opinions.
If you need something to accompany the advert, why not give everyone the ability to vote for an answer. Like your polls. Then, instead of a repeat of the OPs...

"I clicked on 'Go to best answer' and I was returned to page 1. Not sure what that has to do with numbering posts."
That's because that is where the best answer is, chosen by Gromit. Your problem is that you wanted to see the best answer in context?
Or do you just mean that we should revisit the discussion of a few weeks ago?
Philtaz: That is the way it should be. Umm means you can go to the best answer from the main category view i.e. here: http://www.theanswerbank.co.uk/ChatterBank/ to the last answer.
I will put "jump to last post when using the latest posts box" on the next update list.

"Ed you have my sympathies. I am a software developer and life would be so much better if it werent for those users... "
I hear this a lot from techies. I'm not quite in their tribe although I do attempt to understand.
I think, actually, this has been fairly successful in terms of an update - very few massive complaints, no one is planning a walk out yet :)
I say this now, I am about to send out the update email newsletter so everyone is aware of these changes before the weekend. We'll see what gets said on Sunday morning!

Then, instead of a repeat of the OPs views, you could display something like [85% of posters like anotheoldgit's Answer best ] and just the time, no link to it.
That would offer users more participation. And not encourage them to skip several page views, which is the opposite of what you are trying to achieve.
