I couldn't do it, regardless of what crimes they had commited. What type of people will actually do jobs like this - those that get pleasure for inflicting pain! I don't believe in animal testing either.
It has been proved time and time again that the threat of the death penalty has never reduced crime, so the punishments spoken of on this thread are purely for revenge. Would you want lynch mobs to become acceptable?
Of course I wouldn't want lynch mobs to be acceptable.
It wouldn't be a career path I would choose, but I doubt the people that test creams on guinea-pigs dreamed of doing that when they were kids. If it was part of my job to administer these chemicals to criminals then I would do it, but I wouldn't want to.
I just think that it would prevent more suffering on animals, and would provide clearer medical research for humans. I obviously hadn't thought it through but I was thinking more along the lines of drugs that are being worked upon to cure AIDS, cancers, etc. being given to convicts and then the reactions recorded. I don't mean giving them potentially lethal or exrutiatingly painful chemicals.
Lets not forget the seriousness of whats happened. We have a legal system the persons involved will go though they will then receive the sentence and properly the maximum sentence allowed in law . We are not going to hang them or put them in boiling oil or use them for animal testing. If anyone not in the UK is wondering what this crime is about try the link.
Sorry, Natalie, bad phrasing on my part. I didn't mean to infer that you personally would like to see lynch mobs returning - it was just my way of saying that we have become more civilised and some of the talk on this thread seems to me that people would like to go backwards to the days of lynch mobs, etc.
The idea of humans being used without their consent for testing drugs fills me with horror, however they may have behaved.
No worries FP! I obviously hadn't thought it through.
I think cases like this evoke raw emotion and people get carried away, the way I feel is that in some way the perpetrators should be punished but I don't agree with the death penalty, and I do feel that they won't get the punishment they deserve i.e. life probably won't be life, and they probably will get off on diminished responsibility/ temporary insanity.
According to the news report this morning. There was a 3rd girl with them at the time.I believe the report said the 3 girls were in the carpark of a dis-used pub.The 6 men drove into the carpark & bundled the 2 girls into the car leaving the 3rd girl behind. They were then taken to a hotel room were both girls were tortured amongst other things. From what i've read in the paper this went on for 4-5 hrs. Both girls were taken to the park one of the girls was shot in the head but she survived. Now personally speaking i can't understand after what these animals did some people wouldn't want them to face the death penalty.
tanyavee i hope they all get life
Reading some of the proposed torture punishments for the killers under discussion, I guess the only difference between the killers and those on this thread that advocate torture is that those on this thread wish to remain on the right side of the law. Basically, I think they would enjoy performing a bit of leisurely torture on anyone, just that this crime now gives them legal justification.
Who gave you the right to inflict pain on anyone?
And for those who advocate the death penalty, from where do you get the right to kill someone?
VINNY100_2 : Good for you starting such a thread. Often people reading a news item feel so angry and impotent, and long to talk it over. It is good everyone had a chance to let off steam, which is all it will be. Voting by MPs on the subject is a free vote, i.e. not even Party policy can dictate. Never say never, but it is extremely unlikely that MPs would vote for the return of the death penalty. I thought those for hanging probably were young. Things are so black or white. Mind you, a lot of the crimes we are hearing about are so heinous I have started to doubt my own previously-held view in certain circumstances.
I agree about the insult to animals. They are programmed to kill to eat if they are born carnivores but malice, sadism and revenge are not animal characteristics.
I have mixed feelings about the death penalty, mostly because innocent people have wrongly been executed.
DNA can pinpoint someone at the scene of a crime, but I don't trust that DNA can be manipulated, or even changed on computer.
However, if there were several witnesses to a murder or the accused pleas guilty and is of sound state of mind and health then it could be used.
FP & flaming the only reason i use the term "Animals" is because this is a term that has been used before to describe a Serial Killer or a rapist. Also i have heard this term "Animal" in regard to this case being used on some Newspapers,The Radio & just 15mins ago on the TV.
While you both may think it's an insult,it's a figure of speech that is used by many when describing someone that has commited a horrific murder or crime. These 6 men acted like a pack of animals.
