Ask most people under the age of 21 about the boat race, they will have no interest.
I have always hated the boat race. It is for the rich and for the nobless.
The Liverpool and Manchester boat race made up of chavs dressed in drag raising money for charity would appeal to me more.
As for what the guy did. Yes he shouldn't have done it and I hope all he gets convicted of is a public order offence and we don't see the stuck up making a meal of it as though it is the crime of the century.

Universities have all sorts of clubs – including rowing clubs – and would you believe that the ‘rich and nobless’ of both universities also have their own Labour clubs, promoting Labour Party values?
//raising money for charity would appeal to me more.//
The Boat Race does raise money for charity – Wateraid - an international charity focused exclusively on improving poor people’s access to safe water, improved hygiene and sanitation. They work in 27 countries across Africa, Asia, Central America and the Pacific Region. (The last bit is coped and pasted from the Boat Race website).
Incidentally, it’s a big mistake to assume that everyone who gains a place at a prestigious university is ‘rich and nobless’. They’re not. Perhaps you should check your facts before you launch into unfounded criticism in future.

Some very bitter responses on this thread, I would expect nothing less from Joeluke he is just pathetic. but why are other people against this race, its a sport, nobody is affected by it, I wasnt even aware it was on!! I dont understand why people are being bitter and twisted over a race. We just as well cancel the Olympics. Im the least sporty person I know but I dont begrudge others from enjoying their sport and past time!!

It's not just about the Boat Race, it appears nowadays there are some who seem to take an immediate dislike to anything that is part of English culture and traditions.
This race has took place every year since 1856, why is it now in the year 2012, there are some who would wish it no longer took place?
