"Quoting" other users
Morning,
I'm hoping to have a way for us to "quote" one another today.
Questions:
1. How would you like the quotes to look? Italics? Bold? A different colour? All suggestions will be considered.
2. How would you like to implement it? We need a trigger to tell the system "this is a quote". This trigger will be typed before and after the quote so the system to knows where to begin and end. Some options:
{quote}message to be "quoted"{quote}
[Q]message to be "quoted"[Q]
*message to be "quoted"*
It is possible we could put some pretty quote marks around the quote. Who would be in favour of this?
Maybe like this:

I don't know what sort of trigger your system would support but ideally you'd highlight what you'd quoted and click on a tab that says "put this in quotes".

[italics]Why limit it to just quoting other users. It would just be great to be able to use italics however we liked for titles, emphasis, sayings.[italics]
I was hoping we'd be able to separate functions based on what a member was trying to do. This would mean you could {quote} something and then explain yourself with [em]emphasis[em].

I was pretty happy with the italise function and was sorry to see it go. I remember other posters liked it and missed it when it went.
I see no need for garish colours and background tints and letter strengths. Just give us back the ability to italise and see how posters develop it.
I seem to remember AOG introduced the //workaround// when italics disappeared. It works well and people have adopted it. It is also an elegant solution. I fear the site could look a mess if you are not careful.
