Not concerned about parent's sexual orientation, this should not impact on their ability to provide a loving home and upbringing. How old is Elton John, mid/late sixites I believe. Just how is he going to be able to control a teenager. At least Rod Steward has (much) younger wives to look after his offspring!!!
/// If the only factor which informs your opinion on their suitability as parents is their sexuality (rather than their economic status, drug-taking past, time-consuming jobs etc), and you have nothing to back up your stance that a man/woman partnership raises happier, functional children - then you're being homophobic. ///
Although I can't quite see what you are saying, but I think I have got the general gist of it, it is not so 'cut and dried' as all that sp1814. just look at the response I got from my initial 09:15 post, in which I made no comment whatsoever regarding their sexuality, but short of actually coming out with the actual word 'homophobic' you can see where some were coming from.

SP, /// If the only factor which informs your opinion on their suitability as parents is their sexuality (rather than their economic status, drug-taking past, time-consuming jobs etc), and you have nothing to back up your stance that a man/woman partnership raises happier, functional children - then you're being homophobic. ///
I disagree. I think it's understandable that some people think children are better off having both female and male influences in their lives. They may not be able to provide evidence that it works better, but they are entitled to their opinion - and that opinion does not make them homophobic.

sp - I don't see how holding an opinion that children are better brought up by a man and a woman is even remotely homophobic.
They may just happen to feel a 'traditional' family is better - this is not homophobia.
Disagreeing doesn't mean the display of an obia or an ist. What it actually means is that a different opinion is held.
Bandying about accusations of ists and obias is a (pretty lame) way to stifle debate. The person usually making the accusation does so to try and shut somebody up for fear that people will actually think they are what they are (usually wrongly) being accused of.

ummmm
/// Sqad...their baby isn't adopted. They used a surrogate mother. I think Elton is the natural father. ///
I heard on the radio that both Elton John and his partner provide the goods, and short of a DNA test, it is not known who is the actual father.
Oh so clinical and not very romantic at all.

In these discissions someone always says 'but what if the woman is a crack *** and the man is jack the ripper - a single loving parent or a gay couple would be better'.
Yes, obviously, but the comparson has to be done on a level playing field, so let's assume everyone concerned is well-adjusted and loving.
I personally think the best combination is two parents, one of each sex.
Sexuality is irrelevant. A gay man and a lesbian would be a better combination than two straight men or women, or one of any type.
Good luck to EJ and DF though - I'm sure they're great parents.
