Well we are according to ex footballer John Barnes, does he suggest that we burn all these classics, such as the Nazis did in the 30s?

These books were written in a different age and reflected the feelings of explorers, colonist etc when they ventured into strange lands and encountered the natives of these lands, some which were proved to be very strange, savage and leading much different lifestyles to their own.

If these peoples also had such authors, they would have most likely have written the same sort of things about the white man.

That wasn't an answer, what are you scared of?
Good Question Sipowicz, bet you don't get a straight answer
baldric

Sorry for the delay - been shopping for a dinner party tonight, and then watching 'Inglorious Basterds'.

Older white Britons ARE more racist, more homophobic and and generally more right wing than their younger counterparts..but not ALL older people.

It's a fact - not an opinion.
AOG

Hang on - is it not a little 'naughty' to ascribe opinions to Mr Barnes that he has not expressed?

He has identified books/literature which he feels has entrench racist attitudes in this country.

He's raise a discussion point.

You have then extrapolated to say that he wants the banned.

Not good.

Not right.

Not true.

Just for the record, are there anyone else apart from the 'Three Stooges', that don't know what the implications behind throwing a banana skin are?

/// but not ALL older people. ///

Conveniently covering one's tracks, it seems.

/// It's a fact - not an opinion. ///

Sorry a correction, a convenient personal opinion, not a fact.
Right again Baldric!

katiekonker, what the statistic means is that there will be more racists, homophobes etc among 100 old Britons than among 100 young Britons.

Lack of education in statistics seems to remain a constant in all age groups.

Not naughty just a perfectly normal assumption to make, given the evidence before one.

My actual words were "does he 'suggest' that we burn all these classics"?

I was simply asking a question in reply to himself blaming some books and films, which according to him has turned the nation of Britons into a nation of passive racists.
sp, thanks for that,
you say it's a fact, where did it come from?
My actual words were does he suggest that we burn all these classics?

That's easy, then: No.
How can I know for certain what you think anotheoldgit? It's hardly confrontational is it? It's a simple enough request and calling folk The Three Stooges is hardly going to win a debate is it?
there's mention of it in the third paragraph here, Baldric

unfortunately the link in it is broken

What seems to be coming out of all this, is that most Britons young old, it doesn't matter, are racist.

These ideas have been allowed to fester and go on unchallenged because the tolerant Briton has been afraid of being called racist.

Yet on the other side of the scales of 'equality' the others are allowed to carry on unheeded with their accusations.

While this unequal state of affairs is allowed to carry on, we will not see harmony between the races.
As expected,
Bluff,............Bluster,
and not a straight answer to anyone in sight!
I almost forgot, the first word in the OCD definition of Stooge is derogatory it would not be the first time one of aogs posts have been removed for offensive content.
"What seems to be coming out of all this, is that most Britons young old, it doesn't matter, are racist."

I think that is an opinion which deserves to be vigourously challeneged.

I know AOG that you have issues with the misuse of the notion of equality, but simply to make a statement in order to back up your point that the 'other side' continue to behave badly does not make your assertion valid.

I think racism in this country is fading, and will continue to do so as long as fairness and a genuine sense of curiosity replace bigotry and ignorance, and my perception is that the former is eroding the latter as the generations progress.

The actual two words were the 'Three Stooges', which is not derogatory but refers to a 1940's Hollywood comedy trio, so no more offensive that LOL
