Fire death children
85 Answers
It appears that the parents of the 6 children killed in a fire at Derby have been arrested on suspicion of murder and are to be questioned later. There seems to have been rumours and I wondered if that was what they were about after caravan/mini bus were taken for forensic examination. I suppose it wasn't meant to be anything other than an accident which went terribly wrong. If they did do it, they will have this to live with for the rest of their lives. Those poor children.

Should I contact the other people involved (strangers), send flowers, condolences? I was overwhelmed with gratitude for the emergency services and the passers by that helped me - should I contact them, send them flowers, acknowledge them in some way?
I honestly did not how to behave.

It's the police's job to examine everything that may or may not be relevant.
They don't have the benefit of working on hindsight and in every case of suspicious death the nearest and dearest are early suspects and evidence has to be gathered to support or negate their version of events.
When evidence is destroyed it is too late to go back and check.

because everything happened so quickly after the fire started and 5 children were already dead, normal forensics at the scene were put on hold apparently.the parents were not questioned for over 24 hours, and the hotel room they were given after they had left their son's bedside, could have had forensic evidence from their clothes etc
With regards to evidence, hc4361 is correct. The police have to collate evidence asap after the event as once disturbed there is no point in going back. Best have too much than insufficient. With regards to wiring their room, I believe this would be inadmissable in court.
Again I agree with hc4361 as to 'nearest & dearest' being suspects from the early stages as this is often the case.
My own thoughts are that the fire was obviously deliberate but the offenders would probably not have realised how quickly the fire would spread and thought they would have had time to get the children out. As the police have confirmed 'the investigation is far from over', maybe others could also be involved!!
