Glad her parents can at least relax a little. Feel sorry for the teachers parents though.

I entirely agree - the breakdown of demarcation lines between staff and pupils has its price - and these incidents are part of it.
There is indeed a fine line between empathising, and as in the case, crossing the line and using a position of trust to encourage an inappropriate relationship.
Teachers must be aware of this - as you say, as are doctors and other people in positions where emotions and potential contact are part of the situation - but the mature and professional individual knows where the line is, and not only diverts the vulnerable individual from thinking they have crossed it - but makes sure that he or she does not cross it either - which from a position of authority and trust, is far less acceptable or forgicable.

Thank you em. I loved the tv show and was always doing that silly saying much to my oh's annoyance so he said I may as well use something like that as my nickname on here, but, and he's always calling me dizzy, typical man, I didn't think Victoria would sound right but then I remembered that wonderful Julie Andrews film Victor Victoria and thought if she can do that so can I. Make sense? No, my old man said that as well lol.
I think it is difficult to judge just on this situation due to the possible messages it might send out and precedent it might set.
If society is seen to be condoning a teacher who broke his position of trust just because of a romantic notion or overexaggeration it could cause all kinds of problems and blurring of boundaries, especially for those in increased need of protection and the barriers and safety nets that professional boundaries are there to protect. They are there for a reason.

I worry for Megan's state of mind now - she obviously thinks she is in love with him, so naturally will be worried for him and the outcome of the court case. This will not endear her family to her, she will be very resentful to them I am sure, and will turn against them for bringing her back. I don't believe she was in danger for one moment, I think he really did (or does) care for her even though it was totally irresponsible on his behalf for all the reasons given on here previously. I feel for them ALL in this strange situation, the parents (his parents must be devastated, hers are overjoyed) Megan (at the thought of not seeing him again) and Jeremy (who must be feeling guilty by now and scared at the tremendous drama he has put them both in) and his poor wife (she must be heartbroken) I really don't know what to think about it all .................
The vast majority of comments on here echo my thoughts exactly. They have turned this into a huge drama - which it isn't

The parents problems have just begun. The girl will be returning home with a broken heart and be blaming them for ruining her life. In a way it's too bad it couldn't just run out and let her return home disillusioned but wiser. I realize that couldn't happen but I sure wouldn't want to be in the parents' shoes now.
