120 lines of enquiry etc etc so why do you think none of this came out while he was alive? What can they do now? Is this just going to take much needed police away from day to day investigations? It does seem that he's bang to rights but surely this is all futile. Any thoughts?

Apparently his family are removing his headstone from his grave. Seems they may be accepting people are telling the truth.

He was famous. He did a lot for charity while also getting plenty of money and plenty of publicity for himself. Actually he had no talent, just as a DJ but his publicity put him above the norm. I think everyone was afraid to say anything for fear of being shouted down.

Why do you think this a futile exercise, Thatcherite? Are you suggesting that serious crimes should be just ignored or shrugged off by the police?

It is very much in the public interest that we find out the truth and extent of Jimmy Savilles activities - a man who the Met have described as a sexual predator abused underage girls on a national scale for 40 years, who is responsible for the sexual abuse of at least 25 girls.

It is also important to see if others were involved, and for institutions to learn lessons about blind eyes being turned.

Look there is plenty on this on other threads as to how the psychology of victims of abuse works - look at those, Thatcherite. If you have been a victim of Savile, Glitter, Kelly, whoever famous, or even a priest or family member, you may better understand how it gets pushed to the back of the mid, or worse, through the threat of recrimination can be played out by the attacker.

Look Savile is dead, so not much can be done, not even on the financial front as his will have been executed, it is more about the release of emotion for the victims. To that end, and given that the Beeb etc perhaps, perhaps skated over the evidence, well then I think that they (and others) should put up a counselling fund to help the victims.

Clear the air - I understand that the count is 2 rape, 6 paedophilia, and an estimated 25 to 30 further "strong" cases against Savile....and a few accusations partially hidden against others, wit Tosvig (sp) and Vanessa K......
