120 lines of enquiry etc etc so why do you think none of this came out while he was alive? What can they do now? Is this just going to take much needed police away from day to day investigations? It does seem that he's bang to rights but surely this is all futile. Any thoughts?

I don't think it matters which section it's in - you only have to put Saville in the red search box, you'll find 'em all.
Thatcherite

Not futile if there are other celebrities who were involved and are still alive.

Difficult (although) not impossible to investigate? One of the things I'd be expecting the police to do is cross check each story they receive to establish whether there is an established method of abuse.
If its found that the BEeb were aware of his alleged activities, there may be serious repercussions for them. IF. .

Honours

In the 1972 New Year Honours, he was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE),[66] which he always subsequently appended to his signature.
Awarded an honorary green beret by the Royal Marines in the 1970s for being one of only three civilians to date to complete the Royal Marine Commando speed march, 30 miles across Dartmoor carrying 30 lb of kit.[67] The other civilians were former Blue Peter presenter Gethin Jones and film maker Chris Terrill.
In the 1990 Queen's Birthday Honours he was knighted "for charitable services".[68] After the allegations of sexual abuse by Savile were published, British Prime Minister David Cameron indicated in October 2012 that it would be possible for this honour to be rescinded by the Honours Forfeiture Committee.[69]
Also in 1990 he was honoured with a Papal knighthood making him a Knight Commander of the Order of Saint Gregory the Great (KCSG).[70]
He held an honorary doctorate of law (LLD) from the University of Leeds.[71]
He was an honorary fellow of the Royal College of Radiologists (FRCR).[72]
He had the Cross of Merit of the Order pro merito Melitensi.[73]
He was a Freeman of the Borough of Scarborough.[74]

I'm sure his victims would like these honours looked at...

But Matthew Kelly was arrested, and no charges were brought through lack of evidence:

Hardly fair to lump him in with Saville and his cohorts.
Was Matthew Kelly found guilty?
Question Author
It's in the news, I saw no other question in news, I posted, Guilty as charged!
what's sandy toksvig got to do with anything?
ok fair enough - but smoke and fire.....?
DT shouldn't you have checked your facts before posting that?
she has accused a male of "inappropriate behaviour" (can't remember the exact term that she used) and he is still alive - won't name him.
well the police were very interested, ummmm and detained him
Keep your shirt on Thatcherite, thought you'd like to read it.

Try telling those who were his victims that this investigation is futile.Just because the crime may have happened in the past does not mean it is no longer important.
To suggest that acknowledgement and recognition of their abuse is futile is to trivialise their experience.
It may very well prompt other victims to come forward. It may reveal additional perpetrators. It shines a light on the culture of institutions of the time - something everyone can learn from.

These are not futile outcomes.
I'm not comfortable with people coming out of the woodwork saying somene had assaulted them and then won't name them. Innocent people get caught up in the speculation.
<<ok fair enough - but smoke and fire.....? >>

One of the more ridiculous conclusions to an argument.

Matthew Kelly was never charged with anything.
Yes, but it's you that constantly reminds us about libel, DT. I thought that you of all people would have checked your facts.

2 rape enquiries, 6 child abuse, police saying 25-30 cases and 120 lines of enquiry, rocky, is way beyond the normal.................
