Sqad, //but why oh why does everyone have to be flown here and operated on ?//

//That was the question........//

As far as I can tell, everyone isn't being flown here and operated on. Just one little girl who cares enough to try to make a positive difference to this mad world.
I would have no problem if Pakistan wasn't paying. There but for the grace of god Tamaris.
naomi....and JTH......know that the remark made by tamaris was not meant to be taken literally...................
Anyway.....getting back to the point raised.......

Whatever the 'reasoning' or the PR behind the decision to bring Malala back to the Britain, if it softens attitudes to the UKs involvement in the Muslim world and makes just a couple of potential Jihadists think twice before 'joining up', then I think it is well worth it.

Not forgetting, of course, that she is a supremely brave 14 year old girl who has taken a stand *for* something which she knew was placing her in danger, and the world, as a whole, had a duty to stand up and recognise that.
JTH....I agree entirely.

But the question of the OPer was why, seemingly always, the UK?
Sqad, //naomi....and JTH......know that the remark made by tamaris was not meant to be taken literally................... //

Well then, let's keep this in proportion and stop asking //is the NHS to pick up all the waifs and strays throughout the world//
Can anyone provide a list of *all* these people who have received similar 'largesse' from the UK health service?

If they can, I don't expect it to be very big....
naomi...fine......then i will retract that comment.
Thank you.
Oh Lordy Lord!!! I wish I didn't have a hot date and had time to research but I do know that when I lived in Calgary the Canadians took pride in welcoming and treating victims like this young girl.
\\\Can anyone provide a list of *all* these people who have received similar 'largesse' from the UK health service? \\

Perhaps somebody could, but i am not in receipt of previous "largesse" offered upon the NHS.

But again, the OP question was why does it seem to be always the UK and my unanswered question as "have they changed the rules re. private patients in NHS beds.
But your question is hardly pertinent to the OP.........

Surely, someone must have a list of these people that the UK government are ferrying in to take up operations slots and beds?

I find it unbelievable that anyone would make posts bemoaning this situation without having all the facts at their fingertips, first.........
Sqad, does this answer your question?

naomi...thank you....it does indeed.

\\\\I find it unbelievable that anyone would make posts bemoaning this situation without having all the facts at their fingertips, first.\\

Indeed.........I wasn't "bemoaning" just enquiring.
If equipment is on loan to a private hospital, the private hospital will be paying for it, and very likely taking NHS patients - lots of patients are treated in private facilities (with the NHS paying) if the NHS is full.
boxtops...that has always been the case as far as i can remember, but as naomi has pointed out, there is now provision for NHS beds in NHS hospitals to be used for paying private patients............. something of which i was not aware.
Boxy, I know - but it still means it isn't available for use by the NHS for NHS patients. I also know the NHS pay for private beds when necessary. The system needs a thorough overhaul - but as I said, that's another issue.

Not bemoaning enquiring
Sorry, tamaris, it was the 'why oh why' bit that threw me....
How strange you are Tamaris. I live in Belgium and I was so proud when I heard that Britain was to treat this little Heroine
