The case against Huhne should definitely not be dropped. Politicians need to be held personally to account, rather than attempting to shift the blame to someone- anyone- in order to protect their reputation. I am willing to accept that you do have people that go into politics for all the right reasons, but it is saddening to see how frequently they are corrupted by the sense of entitlement and self-importance that the role seems to confer.

Reading your link Sandy, there is little to associate the 2 cases - it would seem that the suspended polic office hadmuch more weighty things on his mind than a speeding ticket.

Interestingly the GATSO that nabbed Huhne was on the M11. This camera with a 50mph max has caught more motorists than any other GATSO in the country. Well you don't expect to see one on a motorwaydo you. Average speed cameras yes, but you have time to correct yourself.

Maybe he feels hard done by for getting caught in a very unusual circumstance and I suppose the millions who have been caught with this camera feel the same way.

The officer had much more to worry about, and sadly couldn't live with the shame of it all. I doubt very much our MP's are quite as willing to admit to their failings. Chris Huhne should pay the penalty for his perfidy.

PDQ, if you knew the camera on the M11, you would realise you have to be pretty stupid to get caught by it.

It is VERY clearly signposted, as is the 50 mph speed limit as the motorway ends, and the number of lanes reduce.
