Those two did not dream that the consequences would result in the death of an obviously very dedicated nurse. They cannot bring her back so it is right & just that the station they worked for should give compensation to her family, it's the very least they can do.

em...that isn't the situation.
The mother is dead and will remain so.....nothing can be done about that.
In 1or 2 years time the initial trauma is likely to have completely dissipated.
Now the question is........in one years time would you like...nothing.....OR £320.000?
For me on a personal note the answer would be the latter.

That is your personal choice Em of course.
In the early 1960's a beloved Aunt of mine died following an awful accident at her place of work, caused by bad practice which would never be allowed now. No admission of guilt and no resource for a claim, however the mill owners as a 'gesture' offered my Grandmother money.
Did she take it ? Yes or she would have been in hock to the Co Op Funeral service for years.

mamy, don't you also think that if the family do take their money that they will be accused of cashing in on her demise. I just see this as another example of people trying to exonerate themselves from wrongdoing, no matter how petty or stupid it seemed, by offering money. If the family don't need it, and the hospital will help them, i see that as a more honourable way.
