I don't know if anyone has been following this story but I'm disappointed at the outcome. The team sounded hopeful of success when they left a couple of weeks ago. Hopefully they may get time to look elsewhere but it doesn't look promising, sadly.

it is a shame, they expected some decently preserved planes. it can't have been just a myth surely

As you say DJH, can't be a myth as so many corroborate the story. One can only surmise they're having difficulty in finding the exact location.
My grandfather was RAF ground crew in Burma during WW2 so I was hoping the team would be successful just for my own nostalgic purposes.
Fingers crossed for them.
Could be some truth behind this;

/// But project leader David Cundall says they are looking in the wrong place. ///

I ws hoping they would find them, that's a shame.

AOG - i hope DC is right and a further exploration will come up trumps
