The point I am trying to make is that Muslims live under Islamic law and there are lots of things they are not supposed to do. If they are in prison they have already broken Islamic law by committing a crime, but a tiny trace of pork DNA in their food has them all distressed and upset. I think it is hypocritical. I wonder how many will go down the compensation route?
really, i don't get any choice locally as to what meat i buy, as we have no British, English call it what you will butchers, and so cannot buy any pork, so if we want chops i have to go far and wide, either that it's halal, so not much difference is it.
I'm with NOX, mamy and ummm - it's sad you all find this so hilarious. When I heard the news item, I thought it odd that they didn't mention Jewish prisoners too - they can't eat pork either. If they can't get kosher food, they're allowed to eat halal, and vice versa. It's an appalling state of affairs, just as well it's come to light at last.
Personally I couldn't give two hoots if my meat is halal or not. I remember my dad and his brothers killing a pig in the garden. Collected the blood to give to a neighbour to make black pudding, gave the pig to someone else to butcher....and you all get a bit of it.
So Muslims are not supposed to eat pork. Anyone remember the case of the Muslim a couple of years ago who sued his employer because he had to work with pork products? He lost his case when evidence was presented that he frequently ate bacon sarnies in the canteen.
Muslims are not supposed to drink alcohol either...do I really need to continue?
mrs o - some are more compliant with the religion than others, that's not surprising. I have Muslim friends, amongst them one doesn't touch a thing he's not supposed to, the other cheerfully drinks wine and eats bacon. The option should be available for those who want to follow their faith. Not everyone's living by those double standards and pretending to comply.
I took agree with ummm, if my meat's halal then it's fine by me. The local butcher only sells halal chicken, it tastes better, and lamb is much sweeter.

Hardly pious muslims if they're in clink.
Of course they will be when persuing their 'compo' claims.
As em said, most meat in this country is halal. Why?
Ok, so the thread descended into a bit of word play, no big deal.
Mrs O makes some excellent points.
That said, nobody died or suffered catastrophic injuries, so let's be thankful for that.
Would the bleeding-heart liberals on AB care to address this though?
As this is not a Muslim country(yet) I find it odd that halal slaughter is actually allowed here when such products ought to be imported:
