Residential Care
I don't understand the thinking about this. When Mum was in the home, we paid so much a week for her care - ALL her care. Now, they will take £75,000 for care, but meals and accommodation won't be included!
This will mean that the homes will charge what they charge now, but then add on the accommodation and food.
How is it going to be calculated? If you are a couple, then they will take £150,000. Meanwhile, the idle and work shy get everything give to them again.
Those who have worked all their lives, bought a home, saved hard for their old age, get clobbered again!

Now what the Govenrment seem to be doing is a double whammy. You still pay for care AND effectively inheritance tax (a very wrong tax) is increased.
As you point out both of these measures add up to funding the work shy and clobbering those that work hard, save and in many cases go without.
Unfortunatley though the old age population is growing (baby boomers piling in ) so it will get worse, and even I can't throw old people out on the street becasue they were feckless so I really dont know what the answer is, unless:
1) Stop sending money to foreigners in aid
2) Stop funding the EUSSR by Billions
3) Stop giving benefits to foreiners
4) Lock out borders and stop foreigners coming in just for benefits
5) Throw out the scum we dont want (Foreigners - of any skin colour beofre some right-on starts whining)

I think the Care Home will only be able to Charge the equivilent of what they do now but the bill will have to be split to show accommodation and food, then care costs. As long as you have more than £123000 you will have to meet the full costs, but when the part of the bills for care have totalled £75000 the Local Council will take over, and the residents bill will reduced to accommodation and food only. What they haven't made clear is the £123k limit for the entire cost or just the care side of things.
Is that a banker I hear blaming foreigners for our financial difficulties?
Oh my aching sides!
Carole - I think the Labour party are favouring a 1.5% increase in income tax which would fund Universal Social care free at the point of delivery much like the NHS.
If that sounds better to you then you know what to do in 2 years time
