Because the audience who pays their wages tends to be lazy students and people who don't cut their hair or wash. Some even drink lager out of plastic glasses during the intervals of live shows. left wing humour tends to appeal to this underclass.

I'm not up to speed with a lot of comics, but I can't think of many who wear their politics on their sleeves.
Ricky Gervais tells politically incorrect jokes, as does Jimmy Carr.
Sarah Millican, Peter Kaye, Miranda Hart and Michael McIntyre seem pretty much neutral (ie. they don't do political humour).
