Would it be spiteful of me to say that it would be nice to see some of that ploughed back into the NHS that saved her life and safeguarded her future?

No, the answer is (c) - you don’t give them £100 in the first place. You keep it and spend on goods and services for the people who have paid it in (or better still, let them keep it and spend it as they wish on themselves). However, I digress. I thought I’d let the dust settle a little before expanding further on my disappointme nt. That way all the accusations...

Again Chill, I do not understand your concern. Her Father has a paid job from the UN, as I understand it. Do you have any evidence to suggest that the British taxpayer is subsidising their stay?
And once again - the Pakistani government has paid her healthcare costs and any subsequent healthcare costs that may be needed.
Whilst it might be a nice gesture ( and one, for all you or any other commentator might actually know at this point, she intends to do) but it is not mandatory or necessary.

Those who assume the Pakistan government are paying for her treatment and education are deluded.
Pakistan are paying for the treatment... out of the millions upon millions of foreign aid given to them by the UK every year, so we are paying for her treatment after all.
Maybe if their government spent more time fighting the Taliban than harbouring them this tragedy might not have occurred in the first place.
Let's just wait and see what happens to the $3 million

Kainat Riaz and Shazia Ramazan, are now back at school;
Two Pakistani girls shot by a Taliban hit squad trying to kill their classmate, Malala Yousafzai, have returned to school under tight security.
She was shot in the head and her two school friends were also wounded.
Police escorted her classmates, Kainat Riaz and Shazia Ramazan, back to school
The two girls will have security escorts indefinitely, police said.

What I would like to ask is why do they all choose to escape their persecutors by coming to the UK?
We seem to be the safe haven for most of the world's political refugees, and once here we never seem to be able to send them back thanks to the ECHRs.
I am in no way belittling what this poor young girl has been forced to go through, simply for standing up for the right of girls to receive an education, but simply commenting on the additional danger it is to this country for foreign nationals to come to these shores and use it as a soap-box to preach their particular views, don't we attract far too much anger from certain groups for our own foreign policy, without attracting more.
Yes this young girl and her family will enjoy celebrity status in this country and will not want for anything in the future, that is much, much more than can be said for our own returning troops, back from troubled lands.

@Chill. Sorry, I just find your argument very odd. You have not really articulated your opposition and it just comes across as churlish. As to "waiting and seeing what happens to the $3million". Its her money - I fail to see why we should get a precise accounting for it.
Thanks for calling me deluded though :)
As to why they came here specifically rather than say the US, or Germany, or France - no idea, beyond a possible family connection or what have you. Birmingham Queens does have an excellent reputation and lots of experience in dealing with reconstruction surgery following gunshot wounds though.....
This country prides itself on its reputation for fighting for the underdog, standing up for fairness and justice. It would seem very wrong therefore - cowardly even- to be intimidated by possible threats of violence from terrorists into refusing asylum to those who have spoken out against base injustice, don't you think? Seems strange to me AoG that you wish our country would adopt a more cowardly approach to international affairs..
And really, why try and draw an equivalence between this girl and returning army veterans? It seems facile to point out that being shot at is a sort of recognised hazard of being a soldier - not one of being a young schoolgirl...
If you wish to highlight the inadequacies of the care and support package for returning veterans, I would happily join with you in that- some instances of their treatment at the hands of our government are disgraceful - but it has nothing to do with the care that this girl receives...

She's here because the QE as it is known around here (Queen Elizabeth Hospital) is one of the finest hospitals in Europe for the type of injury she has sustained which is paid for the by the Pakistani Govt. Why don't we assume that they use some of the money they have that we haven't given them since we don't give them all the money they have in the world.
Her father is employed and she goes to a school of his choice at no cost to the British people. He I presume pays tax on his earnings. If she earns money and lives here she pays tax, how or why can anyone be unhappy about this? Let her use her influence to change things as much as possible and don't put mean spirted objections in the way of something which could prove to be truly remarkable.

/i'm sure Abu Qatada amongst others will second that !? /
what Abu Qatada thinks of our national inclination to stand up for fairness and justice is irrelevant to me
baz is obviously more impressed by him than most of us
/nation of mugs/ - I don't think so
I think something horrible must have befallen the unhappy baz to make him so bitter, twisted and un-British

Given that the UK has given £655 million in aid to Pakistan in the period 2009-2013, what Pakistan is giving us back 'in order to pay for her treatment' is paltry in the extreme.
As I say, those who keep bleating about the Pakistani government picking up the tab are ignoring the facts. I'm guessing she came here because there would be far less furore than if she'd gone to say the USA, where their government are withholding aid as a result of Pakistan's continued corruption and non-compliance when it comes to curtailing the Taliban.

@Chill - First we are deluded, now we are bleating? Well thanks for that.
Its separate budgets. We would be offering the same amount in money in aid regardless of whether she came here for treatment or not. But she has come here, the Pakistani government have paid her treatment fees and that seems eminently reasonable to me.
You still have not articulated your objection to this girl coming here...

I believe it's highly relevant Zeuhl, given the amount our government gives to theirs, which tends to go against the misguided, idealistic assumption that the Pakistan government is paying for everything.
They're just giving us a miniscule sum of our money back, whilst government figures and politicians pocket a large chunk of it.

That's probably because I haven't objected to it. I've objected to the taxpayer giving £655 million in aid to Pakistan over the last 4 years alone, only for them to wash their hands of their 'problem' and try and pass it off as a grateful nation paying for her care, when in reality they're glad to not have the headache of her security and trying to appease the Taliban at the same time.
