The so called 'Bedroom Tax' starts today. Anyone receiving Housing Benefit (HB) who has a spare room will have their HB reduced.

Will it solve the housing shortage?
or
Is it a cynical stealthy way to cut the benefits bill?

Grasscarp, she made it clear earlier in the thread that she has no intention of working.
all us tax payers are paying for you, but we can't save you from eviction.

it's in your own hands.

my daughter got a new job, started this week.

she went out looking.
but then, she *wanted* to work, because that's how she's been brought up. she likes nice things, holidays, driving lessons, shoes, handbags, etc..
Desktop I am confused. You say your husband works as a taxi driver and works all over every holiday, that means he's done roughly 32 hour so far since Friday. I don't know if it's his own car or if he's employed but if he's employed then that means that if he is on the minimum wage rate of £6.19 per hour he has earned £198.00 since Friday. If he works 40 hours per week which you seem to imply he does then he earns £247.00 per week which is £12, 875.20 per year, which is not the lowest wage I have ever heard of. If I am wrong then I am sorry but it seems that you ought to be able to manage on that if you are careful. Peace xxx

To the question I don't agree with the bedroom tax.
"Wheres (sic) the jobs then". Well they're not on this site, look elsewhere!

Calm down Desky. I honestly think people are just trying to help you.
You know, like I did when I went out of my way to phone Woolis Hospital about the parking problems you were worried about, for your 'appointment'...
Seems that way Naomi. So many people have given Desktop tip top advice on how to sort out her problems with links to free debt help charities and the like. Does she heed any of it? No. Why, because she thrives on the woe is me I fed up stance she has adopted. To get out of it into work, make new friends and a positive mental attitude is unlikely to happen any time soon or ever. Hope you had a good Easter break.
Pay it........don't pay it..........it's all the same to us, desktop.

Just don't start wheedling for sympathy when your 'principles' see you out on the street.
You really do have some bad luck desky, every time a job comes up something happens which prevents you taking it, that really is very unlucky imho.

i am moaning about it because i have paid for my home over and over, through rent, council tax for years and years and years of working, what did you think i was sitting scratching my arris all that time. I object to those who never worked a day in their damn lives, who do expect hand outs and do expect to be kept. My elderly mother even offered to help me with this, do you have any bloody idea how bad that makes me feel, she hasn't a proverbial pot to pee in herself, so if i am moaning desktop it's because i am bloody angry.
Okay so is it his own car, is he self employed?
now look what you made me do, x
Plenty of us have health issues and work full time - sometimes my legs are so bad I can't drive - but guess what I still get to work.

If mr desktop is on such a low wage he will get other benefits as well.

I think everyone understands your anger and frustration, Desktop. But take a leaf out of Em10's book. It is going to affect her so she has sought advice - ie she is doing something to help herself.

When Mr BM lost his job, we didn't moan, we just tightened our belts and made some sacrifices. Consequently, we survived.
