Can Churchill's funeral be used as a precedent?

Is there a danger of re-opening old wounds?

By the way - I don't even know whether it's being considered yet!

It's Thatcher, fgt, say no more. However, it is all speculation now.
well you obviously do have more to say - would you attack a dead body, would some of the other thatcher haters?
bayboy, just who are these working class you talk about, the same ones that are lambasted for being feckless, lazy bunch of chavs, haven't we seen that written on here, in the newspapers, over and over. Time to get rid of this stupid class crap once and for all, it's held this country back long enough.
the same sick bstards who held placards glorifying her death, the same ones quaffing champagne, bunch of numpties.

They don't.
because many don't actually know anything about her, her policies, and what she stood for, they have second, third or fourth hand accounts, and go by that. One can hold any opinion one likes, however go from some basis of fact, not others opinions. some are too young to remember what it was like before she came to power, some are of that time when she was in office, and some were affected by it, like loss of jobs, communities, no one disputes that. The question was should she be afforded a state funeral, apart from that what else is there to add. I don't believe she should by the way, and already said so.
I think the route of the cortege has more opportunity for public displays of vitriol than any lying in state. An enclosed space is always easier to secure rather than an open route. She didn't want a state funeral "like Winston Churchill because I am not Winston".

And one of the reasons she didn't want a state funeral was that it would require the approval of parliament which she thought would lead to divisive debate. (Which is ironic when you think about it).

there will be vitriolic demonstrations whether its a state funeral or not. I am going to stay well away from the whole route. Probably a day to stay put.
True on the last point - thought she may have relished a last debate but then probably thought that the barstewards Howe and Heseltine would stitch her up again.
and there are many millions who are glad she was our leader, which is more than you can say for many of the current crop of politicos

She should have had a State funeral years ago
Possibly because they are not worthy of it Trigg.
why would anyone glorify a persons death, makes no sense.
Yes...in her gladrags!
Gloria is just being mean......
